2020 saw Kanye West run for President of the United States and do a bunch of work related to his tenth album, which didn't release until the following summer as Donda.

January[]

  • 26: Ye's friend pro basketball player Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash with eight others, including his daughter Gianna. Ye would tweet in response to the tragedy on the same day,[8] and later write "24" in tribute to Kobe.[9]

February[]

  • 2: The first(?) Sunday Service Choir performance of the year is held at Bayfront Ampitheatre Miami at 11am, date announced on January 28.[10]
  • 12: Sunday Service held at Credit Union 1 Arena, Chicago, at 2pm.[11]

March[]

  • 2: Ye announced the start of YEEZY Season 8.[12]

July[]

  • 1: Ty Dolla $ign's single "Ego Death" is released, featuring a guest verse by Ye.[1]
  • 4: Though he hadn't officially filed for Presidency, Ye announces his candidacy on Twitter.[16]
  • 19: Ye has a campaign rally in South Carolina. During the event, he is shown crying over the topic of abortion.[17]
  • 21: Ye announces that Donda would drop on July 25, sharing an iTunes album consisting of 12 songs.[18] The album did not drop on the promised date.
  • 21: Ye tweets another tracklist and states that the album is called DONDA: WITH CHILD and would come with a movie on the same July 25 release date.[19]
  • 22: Another tracklist for the July 25 DONDA: WITH CHILD release.[20]
  • 25: DONDA: WITH CHILD does not release but he posts an apology for his remarks during the South Carolina rally toward his then-wife Kim Kardashian.[21]
  • 25: Ye also tweets the album work for DONDA: WITH CHILD.[22]

August[]

  • 7: Ye posts a silly clip, writing "FRI-YE-YE."[23]
  • 12: Ye tweets the iconic DaBaby adlib[24] "Lesssgoooooooooooo."[1][25] DaBaby would later be featured in the remix for "Nah Nah Nah," released in November, then "Jail pt 2," released the next year.
  • 17: Ye tweets about "Jesus Tok," a concept he had, a cleaner version of TikTok.[26][27]
  • 21: Ye claims to have made ballot access in ten states even though he faced some legal issues with such beforehand.[28]

September[]

  • 2: Ye is declared the "highest paid male celebrity in the world" by some news sources.[29][30]
  • 4: Big Sean releases his fifth studio album, Detroit 2. The album is executively produced by Kanye.[4]
  • 9: Ye shows off his "100 foot screen" television on Twitter.[31]
  • 14: Ye begins his tirade/rant about record label contracts with a single tweet shot at the labels.[32]
  • 15: Ye announces the Yeezy Christian Academy.[33]
  • 16: Ye's charges against labels is re-invigorated in his longest Twitter chain of the year. He states that he wants his children to own his masters[34], compares himself to historical figure Nat Turner[35], claims he's signed to ten contracts with Universal Music Group[36], and shares images of his contract(s) across many tweets.[37][38]
  • 16: Ye shares the now-famous clip of him urinating on one of his Grammys in a toilet.[39]
  • 18:
  • 26: Ye shares a snippet of "Believe What I Say" on Twitter. It's released as part of Donda nearly a full year later.[42]

November[]

  • 4: Ye concedes in the 2020 Presidential race on Election Day, tweeting "KANYE 2024" with a colored electoral map in the background. This is his last tweet of 2020.[49]
  • 13:
  • 20: SAINt JHN releases his third studio album, While The World Was Burning. The songs, "Pray 4 Me" and "Smack DVD", feature vocals from Kanye. "Smack DVD" would release as a single on November 27.[52]

December[]

  • 25:
    • Kanye's Sunday Service Choir releases an EP titled Emmanuel. All 5 tracks are produced by Kanye.[53]
    • Playboi Carti releases his second studio album, Whole Lotta Red. The album is executively produced by Kanye, who also features in the song, "Go2DaMoon".[54]
