In 2021, Kanye West released his tenth studio album Donda after appearing at a few listening parties for that album during the summer. He also changed his legal name to just Ye[1] as he was handling his divorce from Kim Kardashian.[2][3][4][5] He also ended the years-long beef with Canadian rapper Drake before performing together at a benefit concert in December.

Ye has performed at four listening parties for his tenth album Donda, a millionaire's wedding, and at the Free Larry Hoover event with Drake. There were no tours or award performances this year.

  • 6: A CNN article breaks the news that Ye and Kim Kardashian are discussing divorce.[2]

February[]

  • 19: The divorce is filed by Kim Kardashian.[3][4][1]

April[]

  • ?: Donda, Ye's tenth album, is renamed to Spirits Over The Horizon, and temporarily takes on a different focus than its final product.
  • 13: Reports state that Ye and Kim Kardashian cited "irreconcilable differences" as the cause for divorce and that they'll maintain joint custody of their children.[5]

June[]

  • 25: Ye's tenth album Spirits Over The Horizon is renamed one last time to Donda.[12]

July[]

  • 17: Consequence posts a video on Instagram featuring Ye and Tyler, The Creator, in the studio together.[13]
  • 18: The first listening party for Donda is held as a private show at ChurchLV in Las Vegas, 6:30 to 8pm.[14][15]
  • 20: An advertisement for Beats by Dr. Dre starring Sha'Carri Richardson and "No Child Left Behind" aired.[16]
  • 22: The second listening party for Donda is held, this time for a public audience in Mercedes-Benz Stadium at Atlanta.[17]
  • 23: The Kanye-produced Lil Nas and Jack Harlow track "INDUSTRY BABY" is released.[6]
  • 26: Ye is reported to have moved in to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium as he finishes the album.[18]

August[]

  • 5:
    • The third listening party for Donda is held at Atlanta again, this time concluding with Ye being elevated to the ceiling as "No Child Left Behind" played.[19]
    • Justin Laboy tweets that Watch The Throne 2 will be releasing by the end of the year.[20]
  • 24: Ye posts a screenshot on Instagram that shows Drake's home address.[21]
  • 26: The fourth and final listening party for Donda is held at Chicago. At this show, he is joined by DaBaby and Marilyn Manson, among others; is set on fire; and "marries" Kim Kardashian again. "Remote Control" is played with the extended “Globglogabgalab outro" that doesn't return until "Remote Control pt 2" drops as part of the deluxe.[22][23][24]
  • 29: Donda is released.

September[]

  • 4: Drake, Ye's then-nemesis, "leaks" his track "Life of the Party" on a radio show.[25]
  • 28: Donda is updated. Amongst these changes are the removals of KayCyy and Chris Brown's contributions (the former later re-added) and some mixing changes.[26]

October[]

  • 13: Ye is reported to have started seeking buyers for his Wyoming ranch at a price set at $11 million.[27]
  • 16: Kanye performed at Alexandre Arnault and Geraldine Guyot's wedding, singing "Flashing Lights," "Runaway," "Come To Life," and "Believe What I Say" to a private audience.[8][28]
  • 18: A Los Angeles judge approves the artist's legal name change from Kanye West to Ye.[1]
  • 31: The first post-Donda Sunday Service Choir performance is held with Justin Bieber, Roddy Ricch, and Marilyn Manson appearing with Ye.[29][30]

November[]

  • 7: A Sunday Service event is held in tribute to those affected by the fatal Astroworld Festival crowd crush.[31][32]
  • 9: Ye invites Drake to perform with him at a "Free Larry Hoover" benefit concert, which Drake accepts a week later.[33]
  • 4: The first part of Ye's Drink Champs interview premieres on YouTube.[34] During this interview, he claims that him and Kim Kardashian are still together to some degree and that they are not legally single.[35] This was changed just over a month later.[36]
  • 11: The second part of Ye's Drink Champs interview premieres on YouTube[37], this one including a mention of a then-upcoming Donda deluxe that dropped three days later.
  • 14: Donda (Deluxe) is released, adding five new songs including "LIfe of the Party," "Up From The Ashes," and "Never Abandon Your Family."[38]
  • 16: After Ye invited Drake to a concert for freeing Larry Hoover Sr. a week prior, the two are shown together in Instagram posts, signalling an end to their years-long beef.[39]
  • 21: A Sunday Service Choir performance is held, this one starting with "God's Plan" by Drake after the two rappers are shown to have made amends.[40]
  • 23: Grammy nominations were announced in a livestream. Ye was nominated for Album of the Year (Donda), Best Melodic Rap Performance ("Hurricane"), Best Rap Song ("Jail"), and Best Rap Album (Donda).[41]
  • 28: A Sunday Service Choir performance is held in dedication to one of Kanye's friends, designer Virgil Abloh who passed away on the same day.[42] The choir also performs a cover "Easy On Me" by Adele,[43] which prompts a positive response from the original artist herself days later.[44]
  • 29: Seven of Ye's Ford trucks from his Wyoming ranch were auctioned off for nearly $450,000 total.[45]
  • 30: Ye appeared at the posthumous Virgil Abloh Louis Vuitton show titled "Virgil Was Here" with Kim Kardashian and his daughter North. He was also seated next to Pharrell.[46][47]

December[]

  • 9: Ye and Drake performed together at the "Free Larry Hoover" benefit concert. This served as Ye's first concert after releasing Donda, his first proper since with Kid Cudi as KIDS SEE GHOSTS in 2018, and solo since the Saint Pablo Tour in 2016.[48]
  • 9: According to some reports, Kim Kardashian contacted her lawyer immediately after Ye pleaded for Kim to stay during his performance of "Runaway" at the Larry Hoover concert. She sought to become legally single and to drop "West" from her legal name.[36][49]
  • 10: Alicia Keys released her eighth studio album KEYS which features a song titled "Plentiful (ft. Pusha T)."[50][51][52] The song interpolates "The Truth" by Beanie Sigel, which gave Ye a writing credit on her album.[7][53]
  • 13: Ye appeared as a surprise guest at Future's set at Rolling Loud 2021. He performed "Can't Tell Me Nothing," "Hurricane," "Praise God," and "Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1." He also freestyled over Future's "Fuck Up Some Commas."[9][11][10]
  • 13: Ye appeared in an Instagram post with Tyler, The Creator, who was celebrating his new Golf Le Fleur line.[54] Also included in the post were pics of Tyler with Andre 3000 and JAY-Z.
  • 17: Ye appeared with Roddy Ricch at the listening party for Roddy's album Live Life Fast. They performed "Pure Souls" together.[55]
  • 19: Another Sunday Service event was held, this time including a cover of Frank Ocean's song "Lost."[56]
  • 29: Justin Laboy shares a few clips of Ye working on music with Scarface the night before.[57]
  • 31: Ye held a "black party" in Miami to celebrate New Years Eve 2022 with Future.[58]
