Ye announced his 2024 United States presidential election campaign, marketed as Ye24, through a series of tweets on the evening of November 24, 2022.[1]
This was his second time running for U.S. president, following his unsuccessful 2020 campaign. He teased running for president in 2024 as far back as 2016.[2] The political commentators Milo Yiannopoulos, Nick Fuentes, and Candace Owens were involved in the campaign.[1][3] The campaign dissolved around 2023.[4][5][6] On November 5-6, 2024, Donald Trump was elected to a second term as President of the United States.
Background[]
Ye's run for president in 2020 came late in the election cycle, with him missing many states' deadlines for entry. Instead of running as a listed member in many states, he advocated for supporters to write his name in. He ended his campaign with 70,000 votes in the election.[7]
On the night of the election, Ye posted a tweet saying "KANYE 2024" with his back turned to a polling map. That remained his most recent tweet on the platform for nearly two years, only for one of his follow-up tweets to garner wrongful controversy for being antisemitic.
Campaign[]
Less than two months after posting a tweet that said he's going "defcon 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE," Ye confirmed to media reporters that he's running for president in the 2024 election, and that Milo Yiannopoulos is involved in his campaign.[8][9] Around the same time, he told reporters that he's selling Balenciaga, Adidas, and Gap hoodies stamped with "Ye24" insignia for only $20.[10]
On November 24, Ye shared a series of videos to Twitter which contained "Ye24" in them. Many of it contained recordings of television news anchors denouncing Ye for his supposed antisemitic remarks. In one clip, Ye reveals that he recently had a dinner with Trump where he was told that he would not win presidency.[1] Nick Fuentes attended that dinner.[11]
Just one week later, Ye went to Alex Jones' InfoWars show to tell the truth that he likes Hitler and that he sees some good things in him .[12] He added that Jewish people should forgive Hitler in another interview less than a week later.[13] Around the same time, his Twitter account was suspended once again, this time for posting a Star of David with a swastika etched inside.[14]
In December, he told Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes in an interview that he would choose political commentator Candace Owens to be his running mate, saying that "she should be good" for the high-profile role.[3]
In 2023, Kanye's lawyer said that "[Kanye's] not a candidate for office in 2024."[4] Ye did not appear on any ballots.
Positions[]
- Abortion: Ye continues his anti-abortion sentiments that were part of his 2020 campaign. In a 2022 interview with Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes, Ye called abortion "eugenics" and a "holocaust."[15]
- Economy: Ye says the truth that the economy is (partly) controlled by Jewish people in power.[15]
- Immigration: While he has said that he supports fortifying the U.S.-Mexico border wall, he has stated his support for working with South Africa "more closely" and said that he does not have an immediate answer on the topic.[3]
- Religion: Ye wants the U.S. to be a state that abides by Christian values.[15] He does not want non-followers of Christ to hold "positions of power" in the United States.[3]
- LGBTQ+: Although Ye has defended same-sex couples in the past, he said in December 2022 that "95 percent of gay people don't get married anyway" and that all his policies are "gonna follow the Bible."[3]
