DONDA 2 VULTURES 2

"530" (previously known as "5:30", "5:30 AM", "530 AM", "The Car's Missing", and "Dear Summer") is a song by ¥$ (Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign) that was released as the twelfth track from their second studio album, VULTURES 2, on August 3, 2024.[1] It was later moved to the seventh track on the album.

In the song, Ye reflects on his marital issues with Kim Kardashian, whom he divorced in 2022. He even disses Kim, telling her to listen to other rappers and calling her a gold digger.[2]

Production[]

The song heavily samples Swsh's 2019 song, "Break the Fall (Acoustic)".[3]

During the late Donda 2 (2022) era, rapper Bump J would provide a reference track for the song.

On August 2, 2024, a Reddit user found a potential track list for VULTURES 2 on the Yeezy website, which included "5:30" as the thirteenth track.[4] The song was also teased at having been brought back by the reference artist E. Ness 2 weeks prior, making it likely it was brought back around then.[5]

The following day on August 3, the song was previewed in a listening party for VULTURES 2 and released alongside the album as the 12th track. No Ty Dolla $ign vocals were available on this version of the song and the song was still in the same shape it was during the 2022 GOOD Fridays sessions with slightly worst mixing. The song is also theorized to be completely ripped from a version of the song off of YouTube.[6] A clip of Ty Dolla $ign recording for something with a similar wavelength to the second half of "530" was posted early on August 2nd, although its unclear if that was for the song.[7]

The song was updated on August 5. High-pitched vocals of Ty Dolla $ign were added in the beat-switch and the quality of the audio is overall clearer.[8]

On September 28, during the VULTURES listening party in China, a new version of "530" was previewed which featured a fully completed second verse after the beat-switch.[9] This beat switch would officially release on November 10 where it was made clear that the song had featured an AI vocal cover instead of a legitimate rerecording of the vocals. The original vocals undoubtedly come from the Bump J reference track due to the majority of lines being shared with it. Although it is unknown who does the other lines. It has been confirmed that collaborator Gabe Shaddow engineered the AI on the song, meaning his model was deepfaked over Bump J. A line criticizing Kamala Harris was also removed. On January 9th of 2025, the song was given an official music video providing one last update to the VULTURES version of the song.

Music Video[]

On January 9, 2025, a music video for the song was met with an official release on Kanye's Instagram.[10] Though it was not the full music video, instead of the second half featuring entirely AI it featured several real punch-ins from the initial mumble freestyle of the song in a much more compressed low quality. The music video itself had also been AI-generated with visuals of black-and-white 1950s style puppets.

Trivia[]

  • "530" & "HUSBAND" were the only two full-length songs to feature no Ty Dolla $ign vocals until August 5th where Ty's vocals were incorporated into the song during the intro to the second half.
