Bad Bitch Play Book (abbreviated as BBPB) is an unreleased collaborative album by ¥$ (Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign) that was recorded during their time in Japan and Italy.[1]
By October, the Bad Bitch Play Book concept was completely scrapped and turned into the VULTURES trilogy.[2]
Background[]
- Main article: YEBU
Following Ye's controversies in late 2022, he kept away from the public eye and quietly worked on his eleventh studio album, YEBU. Sometime in June 2023, Ye traveled to Japan to work on his album. On June 29, Ty Dolla $ign went to Japan to work with Ye.[3] Ty wanted Ye to executively produce his new solo album, and showed him several songs from the album in order to persuade him, including an early version of "BURN".[4] Upon hearing the song, Ye reportedly loved it and coined the idea of a collaborative album between him and Ty.[5]
In late July, Ye left Japan and traveled to Florence, Italy to work on his and Ty's album, Bad Bitch Play Book.[6] Ty later traveled to Italy on August 10.[7] Prior to this, Ye made a surprise appearance at Travis Scott's show in Rome on August 7.[8] In the following weeks, several past collaborators, such as Che Pope, Really Doe, GLC, AyoAA, Digital Nas, and Fat Money all traveled to Italy.[9] Two songs ("PROBLEMATIC" and "UNLOCK", which were both intended for YEBU) were also previewed at separate fashions shows on September 1 and September 15 respectively.
Rumors of Ye and Ty's collaborative album began spreading when TMZ released an article on September 27, claiming that Ye was working on a solo album and a potential collaborative album with Ty.[10] Two days later, Ty previewed a new song at a club with finished vocals from himself and Ye.[11] On October 1, a private listening party was held for the album. While Kanye reportedly seemed "out-of-whack" in the party at times, a snippet of another new song was heard with vocals from Ty, with Ye seeming very excited.[12] On October 5, Ty built up hype for the album by posting a picture on Instagram with text reading "¥$", confirming that him and Ye were working on an album together.
Ye and Ty were reportedly planning to perform their new album at the RCF Arena on October 13, though those plans fell through. Another performance was planned on October 27, though this concert was cancelled as well.[13][14] According to Billboard, Ye and Ty wanted to release their album on October 13, but they weren't able to because they had no distributing partner.[13] Later in October, other artists, such as Freddie Gibbs, Metro Boomin, and Playboi Carti were all in Italy working on the album. On October 23, Ty Dolla $ign announced a new multi-stadium listening event for the album on November 3, but, once again, the plans fell through.[15] Around late October to early November, the entire YZY team relocated from Italy to Saudi Arabia to work on the album.[16] It is believed that the concept of Bad Bitch Play Book was scrapped during the Saudi Arabia sessions and was turned into VULTURES.
