"Bound 3", also known as simply just "Bound" is an unreleased song by Kanye West created in 2019 for his album Jesus Is King. [1] The song, which is produced by Swizz Beatz, also features backing adlibs throughout the song from him.

Production[]

The song features a sample of the choir The Voices of Zion and Phyllis Webster's cover of Marvin Sapp's 2005 song "Perfect Peace".[2] The song runs at a tempo of 103 BPM in the F key with a minor mode.[3]

Background[]

The song was first made on September 25, 2019, as an Arrowstar idea for JESUS IS KING.[4] It would appear on a track list for the album during this same month, the copy of the song from the album likely being the same as the Arrowstar reference as no other version created during this month is known to exist.[5]

Though the idea was shelved for a short period of time, the song was revisited on October 9th with a Kanye freestyle and new vocals from Swizz Beatz.[6] Swizz would also record a verse for the song on the following day, though this verse would be left unused.[7] On that same day, Consequence would record a reference for Kanye for the song.[8] The following day, CyHi would record a reference for the song.[9]

Kanye's Sunday Service Choir would record an idea for the song, likely during the same JESUS IS KING sessions.[10] The song would shortly be brought back for DONDA: WITH CHILD on the 22nd of July 2020, though past that point the song had likely been scrapped.[11]

Lyrics[]

[Intro]
Why should I be bound when my Lord has set me free?
Oh, why should I be bound be bound-bum
When my Jesus died for you and me
Oh

[Chorus: Sunday Service Choir]
So why should I be bound? (When, when, when, when)
When God has set me free (Set me free, oh)
So why should I be bound when (Bound by, when Jesus died)
Jesus died for you and me (Oh)

[Refrain: Sunday Service Choir]
Oh, oh, oh, oh (Why should I be bound when)
Oh, oh, oh, oh (When my Jesus died for you and me, oh)
Oh, oh, oh, oh (When, when, when, when)
Oh, oh, oh, oh

[Chorus: Sunday Service Choir]
So why should I be bound? (Why should I be bound when)
When God has set me free (My Lord has set me free, oh)
So why should I be bound when (Oh, why should I be bound be bound-bum)
Jesus died for you and me (When my Jesus died for you and me, oh)

[Refrain: Sunday Service Choir]
Oh, oh, oh, oh (When, when, when, when)
Oh, oh, oh, oh (Set me free, oh)
Oh, oh, oh, oh (Bound by, when Jesus died)
Oh, oh, oh, oh

[Outro]
Why should I be bound when my Lord has set me free?

Trivia[]

  • As the name would hint at, the song likely serves as a sequel to Kanye's hit song "Bound 2" off of his 2013 album Yeezus.
