Mark Anthony Myrie (born 15 July 1973), known professionally as Buju Banton, is a Jamaican reggae dancehall musician. He is one of the most significant and well-regarded artists in Jamaican music. Banton has collaborated with many international artists, including those in the hip hop, Latin and punk rock genres, as well as the sons of Bob Marley.[1]

Banton worked closely with Kanye West alongside fellow singer SAINt JHN during the DONDA: WITH CHILD era.[2] Despite recording multiple songs, the only song from the era to release with him still on it was "Believe What I Say" on West's 10th studio album Donda in 2021 and later "Stand United" by French Montana in 2024.

History (w/ Kanye West)[]

In 2020, Kanye was spotted alongside Buju Banton and SAINt JHN in a studio in Jamaica.[2] During these sessions, the songs "Believe What I Say," "24," "Smack DVD" and "Stand United" were all recorded, alongside other throwaways like "Heaven And Earth."

Although Banton would appear on drafts of songs in later versions of the Donda sessions from 2020-2021, nothing points to him continuing to physically work alongside West in the creation of the album. "Believe What I Say" officially released on August 29, 2021 alongside the rest of the Donda album.[3]

"Stand United" would continue to be worked on into the LP11 sessions in 2023 but ultimately ended up being given to French Montana for his album, releasing alongside Mac and Cheese 5 on February 23rd, 2024.[4]
