Kanye West Wiki

"CAN'T HURRY LOVE" is the second track on Kanye West's demo album, BULLY V1.

Production[]

Like the rest of BULLY, "CAN'T HURRY LOVE" is solely produced by Ye.[1] The song samples "You Can't Hurry Love" by The Supremes.[2]

Background[]

The song was presumably made around October of 2024 though could date back earlier around the time the preceding track "PREACHER MAN" had been made during the VULTURES 2 update sessions as the AI reference artist of this song is speculated to be Ty Dolla $ign due to the similarities between the vocals on this song and the final two lines from Kanye's verse on "FIELD TRIP" which is confirmed to have been Ty.[3] The initial reference track was recorded and ran through AI by Ye similar to the rest of the tracks.

On the 18th, Ye would record a chorus for the song himself that interpolated the song's sample.[4] This chorus wouldn't make it past this version, though the song itself did and had appeared on every known track listing for the album that had been built around its film.[5] The song was worked on into December.

"CAN'T HURRY LOVE" was first previewed in a Yeezy Supply ad, which was posted by Ye on X on February 1, 2025.[6] Later on the date of February 3, 2025, at The Grammys afterparty a longer version of the track was previewed.[7] The lyrics have multiple references to Yeezy designs.[8][9] Later, streamer Adin Ross would preview the song on a live stream which seemed to be an earlier version of the song as the AI'ed artist involved seemed to have been different.[10]

BULLY (Film)[]

On March 18, Ye would randomly decide to release the BULLY short film on March 18, 2025, this song being included in all copies of the film.[11] Ye would later take to X (fka Twitter) to Tweet his reasoning for the release, stating he released it as the project was almost completely AI and he had founded a new disdain towards AI and would be reworking the record.[12] It's possible a new version without AI vocals has been recorded since then, but it cannot be stated for sure as the only song Ye had stated he would be rerecording for specifically is "MELROSE".

Eventually, every link to the film would be taken down and the film would be taken off of YouTube and Apple Music, likely to avoid legal troubles between both Ye and Pomme as shortly before the film's takedown it had been confirmed Pomme had became aware of Ye releasing "HIGHS AND LOWS" with her sample despite her stating she will not be clearing it publicly and was seeking legal action to have it taken down.[13]

Lyrics[]

[Intro]
I can't bear
To live my life alone
I grow impatient for a love
To—, impatient for a love
To call—

[Verse: Kanye West]
We in another time we was designed for (I can't bear to live my life alone)
I got to rearrange it, move my mind forward (I grow impatient for a love)
Oh, move my mind forward (To call my own)
This thing is getting dangerous, just going blind for it
We in another time we was designed for
I gotta rearrange it, move my mind forward
Oh, move my mind forward

[Outro]
I remember Mama said
"You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait"
She said, "Love don't come easy"
It's a game of—
It's a game of—
How many heartaches
Must I stand
Before I find a love
Before I find a love
Right now the only thing
That keeps me hangin' on
When I feel my strength
Yeah, is almost gone
I remember Mama said
"You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait"
She said, "Love don't come easy
It's a game of give and take"
How many heartaches
Must I stand
Before I find a love
Before I find a love
Right now the only thing
That keeps me hangin' on
When I feel my strength
Yeah, is almost gone
I remember Mama said
