No confirmations of this song being lost, will add a lot more info in about an hour or so. Community member since 2015, I think it’s time I can reveal a lot of information.. - Anonymous editor, shortly before editing the article
As the [paragraph which said Can U Be was unlikely to be owned by active leakers] does have some accuracy to it, it is not entirely correct. I have been an active member of the unreleased community since late 2015. Lets start off with Music mafia, back in 2012-2014 (probably even before) Music Mafia was not working alone, they were working with the German community to collect unreleased music files through emails. If there were some songs they could not get a hold of, they would have the helping hand of the Germans to do the job for them and vice versa, if there was a song(s) that the Germans could not get they would ask Music mafia for assistance, and do some type of swap deal where they would trade songs and end up selling at the end of the day.
I spoke to a hacker who was relatively close to them and did help them a lot, he explained to me the process of how Music Mafia operated. Once in possession of emails they would try to crack them open, if they could not they would reach out to smaller hackers and have them help (just like how the Germans did but with a different deal at the end), once these small hackers did help out, Music Mafia would let them keep the song but they were not allowed to sell it. It was more of an early access before it leaks type of deal, you might think "why not just tell them you couldn't get the email open, lie and sell the song yourself." Well I'm sure some did that, but the benefit here was to help them out until you got the grail you wanted at the end. Redacted stated "From what I remember Music Mafia had 3 members, but they did not live together or close to each other. Their aliases were 'T*****', 'G****', and '*******'"(Their alias have been hidden for now). "They all hacked but there was one main hacker who did most of the work, another one of them ran the website, and the third was the one responding to emails. Before their fallout with the Germans they would would together and obtain songs from one another. After their fallout why did so many of their songs leak? This was because it was their way of trying to take the other team down. Ultimately Music Mafia lost and had to disperse before their entire vault leaked. I'm sure the Germans had Can U Be, neither side wanted it to leak as they saw the popularity of it raise over the years like no other song." - REDACTED #1
Another trustworthy source mentioned they obtained "Can U Be" from Music Mafia by scamming/tricking them. "We ended up working together, they saw my potential selling on my own and asked for my help. I ended up hacking quite a few emails they asked, we also shared a lot of the same songs from before our partnership. So it was pretty easy from there on out. We would converse about songs we had and I would send my files over to compare with them and they would send some back to me. Once enough trust was built up I mentioned how I had "Can U Be" to them and I wanted to sell "my version" but before I did I needed to see if we had the same version that way if we did I wouldn't have sold the song if they didn't want me too. They honestly believed me without a doubt that I had it and they sent the file over "so I could compare the one I had". - REDACTED #2
A story that has been changed overtime but still is mentioned, is the administrators of Leaked.cx own the song, this is what the new generation is saying, but if we rollback to early 2018 the story went as said. Music Mafia had just rebranded as "PRIVATEFRIEND" but there was no offsite buys allowed, Music Mafia wanted to get more business rolling so they teamed up with the owners of Leaked.cx (back then known as Leakth.is) and the agreement was the owners got a bundle of songs (one of them including "Can U Be") and the hacker group was allowed to sell on site. Though this story was heavily speculated there was never a confirmation of this.
The Lost Snippet:
As we know, we have a few snippets of "Can U Be" dating back June 2015 until October 2021. But what if I told you there was a snippet of "Can U Be" that was lost, doesn't sound believable right? IN 2016 we got a 3 second snippet that was uploaded onto Snapchat, people said the person who uploaded this was a female related to "Hudson Mohawke" being her niece. Someone from the KTT comments (now being an inactive user) saying, "Oh this must be that snippet that Travis played last year in the car, I knew it sounded like him lol, wouldn't make sense for him to play that song and not be on it." Stating that "Can U Be" had Travis on it since 2015 and the snippet played at the Glastonbury backstage event was probably Kanye doing Travis' part before he hopped on the song.
Unconfirmed Stories:
Users from SXN80 & KTT claiming that Music Mafia tried selling this song when the LQ snippet first came out in 2015 for $200-$500 on skype (that's where they did business). Although the part of them selling songs on skype is true the price of this song might be untrue, as there were a few users I ran into who were buyers of Music Mafia saying that the price seems fake. one particular user who had been an OG buyer since 2012 said, "I have bought multiple songs from them back in 2012-2013, they were OG Yeezus era songs, I bought each one for around $750 lol, so for them to sell a brand new song at that time for $500 sounds unrealistic but who knows."(Music Mafia was referred to as Bao at this time period, but I will stick with saying music mafia to not confuse going back and forth from Bao and Music Mafia) - REDACTED #3
Another user who had receipts of doing business with Music Mafia in 2015-2016 said that he would buy regularly off them on Skype, they would play him snippets of songs they wanted to sell. (When I asked the interviewee if he could play some snippets for me that Music Mafia played for him over skype he shared the following; Blood On The leaves OG, I Am Not Home, Send It Up OG, this was years before these songs leaked) He then said when he asked Music Mafia to play them "Can U Be" over skype since the LQ snippet you could barley hear it, they responded with a message saying "No that song you either buy on the spot or don't even bother asking for it." he told them the LQ snippet isn't good enough and needed a better quality one, which they responded with "That snippet is good enough you don't need a better listen." - REDACTED #4
Inactive user claims that he ran into Music Mafia in 2018 on the dark web. He had recently bought 3 songs from them and was planning on buying more, he went on the dark web to do some surfing and somehow ended up running into a group of music hackers. He conversed with them saying he wanted to buy some songs and asked them for a list of songs they had. 100% of the songs Music Mafia had ever listed at that time were the same songs these people on the dark web had, including songs that Music Mafia had already sold plus the songs that he had bought from them recently. He told me "When I asked for the price of the songs that I bought from Music Mafia they were 3x cheaper than what I had bought them for." When I asked if they had "Can U Be" on there he replied, "Yes", but was too furious to ask about it since they had songs he had just bought. He implied that Music Mafia was also on the Dark Web selling songs for a much cheaper price, if you ran into them you could have been lucky enough to get your hands on "Can U Be" for less than 2BTC. - REDACTED #5
This is from my own personal experience, with a now lost screenshot of an email directly from Music Mafia I had asked them about a few songs that they had no listed on their website. They replied back saying, "We have any song you could possibly imagine that has a snippet out, we will continue to get songs as well. But whatever is on our website is what we have for sale. The more you buy from us you might get access to songs we don't promote on our website." I further continued the conversation asking about other songs they had on site, one of which included "Can U Be".
Me: Okay Was Can U Be ever sold? If Not I am interested in buying.
Music Mafia: Yes this song has not sold yet, the other bidders did not come in time with the BTC so we put it back in the vault, we cannot sell the song at the moment though. just like how you guys bosses and people you need to listen too at work, we do as well. Our sources do not want us selling this song for now.
This left me to understand that there has to be two options for this. Either the song was helped by other sources to obtain (The Germans) or they met another source who is unidentified who had the song and they did some type of swap deal, for both sources to be on the same page they would have to sell the song, they probably fell out at some point in time and both sources ended up vaulting it until they come to another understanding for when it's time to sell it. - Me
A now inactive user claims he ran into someone on reddit who had a lot of songs that were not on sale from Music mafia, this was an entirely new batch of songs that Music Mafia refused/denied to have but this reddit user did have. He made a decisive decision to buy one of the songs from this reddit user, thinking he had just gotten scammed for $500, though this reddit user came back with the unreleased music file and delivered a day later. After a week or so he asked reddit user if he had "Can U Be" he replied, "Of course, but that one is going to cost you a bit more, around $10,000." When asked if he was apart of Music Mafia, the reddit user replied, "no, I know who they are though we talked a few times I get my stuff other ways. Don't tell them I have it though otherwise I can't sell it." Nonetheless, the transaction never went through, and the reddit user went MIA. Some speculations was he had talked to multiple users about selling "Can U Be" and Music Mafia ended up hearing about it after someone snitched on him. They most likely hacked his reddit account or whacked him offline. (This story is more on the downlow side, there was receipts of the conversation shown of this reddit user listing the songs he had, including Can U Be. This reddit user also had songs such as "Bad Night, New Body, and Last Name before they were made public or had CDQ snippets.)
June 2023 Music Mafia was extorted by a unidentified user, threatening to leak all their real information if they don't leak their entire vault. Nothing ever came from this besides a remake of a Music Mafia webiste, doxxing the group. Spilling some information but not all, rumors has it that this particular unidentified user did end up successfully finishing his mission and have the hacker group give him their vault, some say it's not true.
Other confirmed/non-confirmed users to have "Can U Be":
Bao / Music Mafia / PRIVATEFRIEND
The Germans (Varies on which ones considering their camp consisted of many people)
TheSource
SpirDark
SleepingGiant
r/BlackBruceWayne
Che Pope
Kanye West
Mike Dean
Koolo
DABA (Controversial, he was at the listening party, has insight information but says he doesn't have the song)
Infamous hacker of 2008 who leaked a lot of pop stars songs/albums, sex tapes, kanye's songs too before the generic hacking era.
Additional Information; Miscellaneous
After having a one on one interview with a hacker I asked him, "Why hasn't Music Mafia put the song for sale again, they keep saying the song either sold, or they cannot sell it yet." he replied, "You have to understand hackers like us are just like you guys, only difference is we don't buy the music we steal it. But we like the idea of vaulting stuff. People in the community buy songs to vault for a period of time until they get bored of it and sell/trade/leak it. Music Mafia is the same way, they don't sell every song they get. Some songs the actually enjoy and just want for themselves, they started this business to make money, I would assume after some time they ended up getting so many songs and made so many transactions they don't care to sell the big stuff because they will always have songs to sell so they keep the valuable stuff and give the community other songs. At this point I would assume "Can U Be" falls under that category where they like the song and will just continue to sell other stuff as they vault that."
Further into the conversation he stated, "Lets do an example, lets say that "Can U Be" was only sent to one email right? That means the file could only be in 2 emails, the one it was sent from and the one it was received to. If Music Mafia was really the only group to hack this song they would need to hack both ends of the email to really stop anyone else from getting it, downloading the file then deleting it that way really no one has access of getting it. That would make it nearly impossible to get it at that point, but knowing Kanye with all the versions he makes of songs, and to how many emails he sends them too/the people he works with, the song is out there and held by more people than we know." - REDACTED #6
"If anyone has the song I dare them to leak it. They won't though, you know why? because they are all fake. Only we have it." - Music Mafia
