"CITY OF CHI" (also known as "On My Way" and "Closed For Business") is an song by Kanye West that was released on May 9, 2025 as a Scrybe exclusive as the fourteenth track to his eleventh solo studio album. DONDA 2 (2025) that had been released under the name Donda West
[1] The song solely features vocals from Don Toliver and Fat Money (albeit with AI vocals) as well as production from MIKE DEAN and Tommy Rush.
Production[]
The song features production from MIKE DEAN and Tommy Rush and features a sample of Mr. Sirius' song "間奏曲 (Intermezzo)".[2] The song runs at a tempo of 112 BPM in the D key with a minor mode and is played in 4/4 time.
Background[]
The initial Ye freestyle was recorded some time in late-January of 2022 through what seems to be an iPhone voice memo where he written the chorus and performed two verses, though the verse had likely been primarily mumble as seen on the cut-down version of the freestyle.[3] On the 29th, Don Toliver had interpolated the chorus himself and recorded his own verse for the song.[4]
The majority of Ye's writer's team recorded references for the song, though it's unclear if Ye ever decided to record a more high quality take for the song.[5] Shenseea had also recorded a feature for the song though the feature was seemingly unused past its initial bounce date on February 3rd.[6] The song appeared in several copies of the album, most notably a copy a day before the album's intended 2.22.22 release and was executively produced by MIKE DEAN, though past that the song was seemingly scrapped.[7]
In 2025, Digital Nas seemingly brought the song back for DONDA 2's re-release and placed it on an early track listing, though when the album finally came out the song was no where to be seen.[8] Digital Nas would later tease the song's release on May 1st on a stream with SNEAKO, thoughthe release was eventually pushed back as a result of the public's disdain towards AI. The song would later release as a Scrybe exclusive on May 9th.
