"CITY UNDERGROUND" is an unreleased song by ¥$ (Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign) that was created during the Bad Bitch Play Book sessions.

Background[]

The song was initially created by singer Tish in Paris in 2022. After recording the lyric idea, the song was sent to Ty Dolla $ign.[1] Ty would cut the hook for the song and repurpose it for his own album Beach House 4, until he had met up with Kanye West in June for Kanye's birthday.[2]

The song was shown to Kanye and was taken up by the duo when they began progress for their album Bad Bitch Play Book and was seen in October track listings for the album.[3] Although confirmed that the song was finished, it was also confirmed that Kanye had never recorded a verse for the song and the only existing vocals he recorded for the song are adlibs as proven by the only existing snippet for the song.[4] Many fans believed it was a renamed version of "Sky City", similarly to how "Fighting Fires" was renamed to "My Soul". However, Luit later confirmed that "City Underground" was completely unrelated to "Sky City" and posted a snippet of the song on June 30, 2024.[5]

According to producer Adam Vadel, "CITY UNDERGROUND" was planned to release on VULTURES 1; however, it was ultimately scrapped because Tish demanded that she be fake-credited on "BELIEVER".[6]

On March 9, Fat Money tweeted potential lyrics from the song, indicating that he may have worked on it.[7] The song was confirmed to have been brought back and worked on again for VULTURES 2, appearing on the track listing for the album that had been intended for release on May 3rd. It is likely the song was scrapped past the rework.[8]

Tish would later confirm the song was in her possession again and was intended for release on her upcoming February 2025 album.
