"Cold" (labeled "Cold.1" on streaming services, originally titled "Theraflu" and "Way Too Cold"[1][2]) is the sixth track from GOOD Music's compilation album, Cruel Summer (2012).[3] It is the lead single for the album, releasing on April 5, 2012.[4] The song features vocals from Kanye West, DJ Khaled, and DJ Pharris.

In the song, Kanye raps about his ex-girlfriend, Amber Rose, and his love for Kim Kardashian.[5]

Production[]

The song interpolates Mase's 1997 song, "Lookin' at Me".[6]

Background[]

According to producer Hit-Boy, Kanye had made the beat for the song around a couple months prior to the song's release, and recorded his verse "maybe a week and a half" prior to its release. Before Cruel Summer released, it was unknown if the song would be added on Kanye's album or DJ Khaled's album.[7] On April 4, 2012, the song was first previewed on Hot 97 by Funkmaster Flex.[8]

When the song released, it was titled "Theraflu". However, Theraflu had to clarify to TMZ that they "in no way endorse or approve of the references or use of the image and likeness of Theraflu in this manner".[9] Kanye decided to retitle the song to "Way Too Cold"; surprisingly, he was not forced by Theraflu to do so.[10] On April 17, the song was renamed once more to "Cold".

Music video[]

The music video for "Cold" is featured at the end of DJ Khaled's music video for his song, "I Wish You Would". The song was released on August 13, 2012, and was directed by Hype Williams.[11]

Lyrics[]

Kanye West! (Swag King Cole) DJ Khaled!

Can't a young n***a get money any more? (ah)

Tell PETA my mink is dragging on the floor (ah)

Can I have a bad bitch without no flaws

Come to meet me without no drawers?

Dinner with Anna Wintour, racing with Anja Rubik

I told you mahfuckas it was more than the music

In the projects one day, to Project Runway

We done heard all that loud-ass talking, we're used to it

I'm from where shorties fucked up, double-cupped up

Might even kill somebody and YouTube it

To whoever think their words affect me is too stupid

And if you can do it better than me, then you do it

We flyer than a parakeet, floatin' with no parachute

Six thousand dollar pair of shoes, we made it to the Paris news

Don't talk about style cause I embarrass you

Shut the fuck up when you talk to me 'fore I embarrass you

Can't a young n***a get money any more? (ah)

Tell PETA my mink is dragging on the floor (ah)

Can I have a bad bitch without no flaws

Come to meet me without no drawers?

And the whole industry want to fuck your old chick

Only n***a I got respect for is Wiz

And I'll admit, I had fell in love with Kim

Around the same time she had fell in love with him

Well that's cool, baby girl, do ya thang

Lucky I ain't had Jay drop him from the team

La Familia, Roc Nation

We in the building, we still keep it basement

We flyer than a parakeet, floatin' with no parachute

Six thousand dollar pair of shoes, I made it to the Paris news

Don't talk about style cause I'll embarrass you

Shut the fuck up when you talk to me 'fore I embarrass you

GOOD Music, we fresh, we fresh

Anything else, we detest, detest

Bitch-ass n***as got ass and breasts

All that said, let me ask this quest'

Can't a young n***a get money any more?

Tell PETA my mink is dragging on the floor

Can I have a bad bitch without no flaws

Come to meet me without, don't talk to me 'bout style, n***a

I'll mothafuckin' embarrass you

Talking 'bout clothes, I'll mothafuckin' embarrass you

Hollering 'bout some hoes, I'll mothafuckin' embarrass you

Way too cold, I promise you'll need some theraflu

(Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh) Get the theraflu

(Uh, uh-uh, uh-uh, uh) Get the theraflu

(Uh, uh-uh, uh-uh, uh, uh-uh, uh-uh)

(Uh, uh-uh, uh-uh uh) Get the theraflu
