"DELRESTO (ECHOES)" is a song by former GOOD Music signee Travis Scott and famed singer Beyoncé released as a lead single to Travis Scott's senior studio album, UTOPIA (2023).[1] The song serves as the ninth track on the record and was met with an official release date of July 26, 2023.[2]

The song features an uncredited feature from Bon Iver leader singer Justin Vernon and features production from Travis himself alongside MIKE DEAN, The-Dream, umru and more.[3]

Production[]

The song runs at a tempo of 116 BPM and has a key of D minor.[4] It features a sample of umru's Piano Loop November 163 Dmin, a drum sample of Ludiosity's "Warped Woods" and a brief vocal sample of Vikki Carr's "It Must Be Him".[5]

Background[]

The earliest known version of the song dates back to a James Blake reference track on October 17, 2020. It's unclear if this was just a reference for the hook of the song or for Travis' portions as well.[6] Travis would record his vocals for the song in Cabo, Mexico on December 8 of the same year.

Justin Vernon of Bon Iver would also record a reference for the song around this same time period, with his contributions being carried into the final version of the song.

The song was brought to Kanye West to record for in the Pio Pico museum during the Donda sessions and has been confirmed he did record for the song in a short video of a mumble freestyle with no coherent word dating back to June 3rd of 2021.[7] KayCyy was also in the studio when Kanye and Travis were working on the song and has also been confirmed to have written a reference intended for the song. This was likely shortly after Kanye's initial freestyle if not on the same day of it.

The song was taken back to Mexico and finalized (?) with a feature from James Blake on the hook and verses from Kanye West and Justin Vernon. A folder containing this version of the song has been found, although the folder is password-protected meaning it's very unlikely it will ever leak.[8]

After the ASTROWORLD incident in late-2021 and Kanye's antisemitic rant in late-2022, the song was likely reworked completely to avoid any further controversy, cutting Kanye and James Blake and replacing the two with Beyoncé.

The song was met with an official release on July 26, 2023, just two days before the album's final release making it the second lead single after "KPOP".[9] It released as track 9 of the final album on July 28.

At the showing of the album's film Circus Maximus, however, a version of the song devoid of Beyoncé's contributions.[10] This was later fixed in the YouTuber version of the film which still Beyoncé's verse but now had her vocals present on the hook.[11]

Lyrics[]

[Intro]
I believe in, I believe in love
Ah
Ah
Ah
Ah

[Verse 1: Beyoncé]
Statues in the next room
Billions in escrow (Ah)
Bulletproof the whole thing
Ignore the dress code
Step into the ballroom
So hard to let go (Ah)
Things that never give life
I can see the echoes

[Verse 2: Travis Scott & Beyoncé]
Ridin' through the thunder
Tryna see the summer
It's the echoes that I wait for
It's the echoes that I'm made for
Recognize delresto
Recognize the let go
Breakin' through the echoes (Made for)
Breathin' through the echo (Walk)

[Pre-Chorus: Beyoncé]
It's only echoes I escape for (Walk, walk)
Only echoes on the return (Walk, walk)
Walkin' on the numbers (Walk, walk)
Stay the night

[Chorus: Beyoncé]
It's the let go (Walk)
The let go (Walk)
The let go (Walk)
The let go (Walk)
That I wait for (Walk)
I'll wait for (Walk)
I'll wait for (Walk)
I'll wait for you (Walk)

[Verse 3: Justin Vernon & Beyoncé]
Watch you, watch you, watch you get the medical
Listen at your waist to stay hospitable
Infected with your vaccine, this ain't critical
Let me vibe with your green eyes (—dom-dom-dom-dom)

[Bridge: Travis Scott]
The starry nights, they start to fade (Come on)
At times, for miles I see your face, yeah
I drive, I drive alone, you wait
Your time, your time, your time, you take
You take

[Verse 4: Travis Scott]
Drivin' reckless through a storm and
It's you or breakfast in the mornin'
My nights is abnormal, advice ain't informal
I did try to warn you before they went and swarmed you
The height we made is paranormal
We shake and wake up the paranoia
Won't let it destroy you, won't let it annoy you
I'm tryin' to enjoy you in front of the foyer

[Verse 5: Beyoncé]
We can't seem to break through out the logical (Ah)
To see it in the day, you gotta free your soul (Breakin' through the echoes)
You wanna reign supreme and never let them go (Ah)
We filmin' live from the kingdom-dom-dom-dom

[Pre-Chorus: Beyoncé]
Only echoes that I wait for (Ah)
Only echoes on the return
Walkin' on the numbers (Walk, walk)
I find (Walk, walk)
It's the echoes that I wait for (Walk, walk)
It's the echoes on the return (Walk, walk)
Stay the night

[Chorus: Beyoncé]
It's the let go (Walk)
The let go (Walk)
The let go (Walk)
The let go (Walk)
That I wait for (Walk)
I'll wait for (Walk)
I'll wait for (Walk)
I'll wait for you (Walk)

[Outro: Justin Vernon]
Ah
Ah
Ah
Ah
Hey, now, you will report to me
Hey, now, you will report to me
Hey, now
Hey, now, you will report to me (Hey, now, you will report to me)
Hey, now
Hey, now, you will report to me
