"DRUNK" is a song by ¥$ (Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign) that was released as the seventeenth and final track from the DIGITAL DELUXE 3 edition of their second studio album, VULTURES 2, on August 8, 2024. The song features guest vocals from rappers Peso Pluma and Kodak Black. The song also features backing vocals from Bad Bunny during Kodak's verse.
Background[]
Bad Bunny's vocals on the song originate from an unreleased song by rapper Tory Lanez, titled "So Drunk", which was made sometime in 2017.[1] Later on, Colombian rapper J Balvin recorded vocals for the song.[2] In 2021, the song was given to Ty Dolla $ign, who renamed the song to "Drunk", removed J Balvin's vocals, and added new vocals from Kodak Black.[3] A year later, Kodak revealed that he was working on a song with Bad Bunny, likely referring to "Drunk".[4]
It is unknown when the song was brought back, but it was featured as track 14 on the original VULTURES 1 tracklist from December 8, 2023[5], though it was removed from subsequent tracklists. It was played during the Miami rave on December 12, though it could not be heard on the stream due to audio issues.
The song's producer, SHDØW, stated in March 2024 that "Drunk" would release on VULTURES 3.[6] This concept didn't last long, however, as the song had appeared on both VULTURES 2 track lists slated for May 3rd. When the album wasn't released then, "Drunk" was brought back into consideration post-rework.
The song was believed to be slated for release on VULTURES 3 again in a shared conversation between Ye and his producer. The song was said to be finished, with Ye responding "Let's just save it for the next one".[7] Plans since then had changed as the song had officially released for the VULTURES 2 digital exclusive deluxe edition on August 8.[8] Bad Bunny's vocals were removed from the song in place of Peso Pluma, but his adlibs can still be heard in the background of Kodak's verse.
The song is most likely still in an unfinished state, given the song has no Ye verse and Kodak's verse is notably low quality and static-y with Bad Bunny's adlibs still present on the song.
