Emmanuel is an EP by the Sunday Service Choir, with executive production done by Kanye West, although the production solely consists of ambiance.[1] The project was released on December 25, 2020, exactly one year after the release of Jesus Is Born.[2][3] Alongside the executive production, Kanye composed the five-song project.
Background[]
The song "Eternal Rest", now known as "Requiem Aeterna", was created during West's unreleased God's Country sessions, before being repurposed for Donda and later this EP. According to insiders, the song was supposed to be a solo Sunday Service Choir interlude. As well, in 2019, the song was played at the biblical opera Nebuchadnezzar: A Kanye West Opera Film[4] and Kanye's daughter North West's birthday party. Another song from the EP, "Gloria", was considered for West's studio album Donda. Both songs have versions with vocals done by Kanye West.
Artwork[]
Original unused Donda cover, red one said to exist.
The album cover originated as a scrapped Donda cover before being altered and reused for the EP.[5] The artwork depicts a spherical orb-like object with a white dove in front of it.
In the religion of Christianity, doves are symbols of the Holy Spirit.
