"Everything We Need" is the sixth track from Kanye West's ninth studio album, JESUS IS KING (2019).[1] The track features vocals from Ty Dolla $ign, Ant Clemons, and uncredited vocals from the Sunday Service Choir and tizhimself. The song is adapted from the scrapped Yandhi song, "The Storm".[2]
In the song, Ye tells the listener to be grateful of everything that God has given.
Background[]
The original melody of the song was made by B. Lewis. He was credited with as a producer, writer, and guitarist on the song.[3][4] From there, Kanye took the melody and created the song, "The Storm", which initially featured Kid Cudi and XXXTENTACION. XXX's verse was initially meant to be on a remix of Drake and Lil Baby's song, "Yes Indeed", but it was given to Ye instead.[5] On the SNL track list, the song is uniquely named "Tripple X (Storm)".[6]
However, after Ye had a revelation at Coachella in 2019, he scrapped Yandhi and began working on a new project, Jesus Is King. "The Storm" is one of many songs from the Yandhi era that were reworked to fit the more religious themes. Because of this, Kanye's first verse was slightly changed and XXX's verse was replaced with another verse from Ye. Cudi's verse was also completely removed for unknown reasons.
Remix[]
A remix of the song was planned to release on Kanye and Dr. Dre's collaborative album, JESUS IS KING: The Dr. Dre Version, but neither the remix nor the album released. The remix features Ye's original first verse from "The Storm" along with an outro with vocals from Marsha Ambrosius.[7]
