"Freeee (Ghost Town Pt. 2)" is the fourth track from KIDS SEE GHOSTS (Kanye West and Kid Cudi)'s debut studio album, KIDS SEE GHOSTS (2018). The song features vocals from both members of the supergroup, as well as Ty Dolla $ign and uncredited vocals from Anthony Hamilton.[1][2]
The track carries on the positive themes of "Ghost Town" from Ye's solo album, ye (2018), being recovering from mental illness and embracing liberation.[3]
Production[]
The song samples two tracks, "Stark" by Mr. Chop (for the drums that the song is built around), and the voice of Marcus Garvey for the song's spoken word intro.[4]
Background[]
The song was conceived during the LOVE EVERYONE sessions in May 2018.[5] Initially, Ye wanted "Ghost Town" to release on KIDS SEE GHOSTS and "Freeee" to release on ye, but he decided to swap the tracks on the same day that ye released.[6] The song was previewed at the KIDS SEE GHOSTS listening party in California, albeit with slightly different lyrics compared to the released version.[7]
