"God Is" is a song by Kanye West that was released as the eighth track from his ninth studio album, JESUS IS KING, on October 25, 2019.[1] The song features uncredited vocals from Labrinth.[2]
In the song, Ye explains how God has helped free himself from his "past demons" and open up his life and his future to a new journey of faith.[2]

The song heavily samples and is named after Rev. James Cleveland's 1979 song, "God Is".[3]
Background[]
Producer Warryn Campbell revealed that he originally made the beat since he loved the sample and played it to Ye, who asked Warryn to give it to him for JESUS IS KING.[4] On August 29, 2019, Kim Kardashian tweeted an early track list for JESUS IS KING, listing "God Is" as the fourth track.[5] While it wasn't previewed at any of the listening parties, it was moved to the eighth track on the album.
After the song released, people complained that the line, "I know God is alive, yeah" sounded like "I know God is a lie, yeah". Because of this, Ye rerecorded some lines in the song by October 29, including the line: "This ain't 'bout a damn religion" which was changed to "This ain't 'bout a dead religion".[2]
Remix[]
A remix of the song was planned to release on Ye and Dr. Dre's collaborative album, JESUS IS KING: The Dr. Dre Version, but neither the song nor the album released. The outro features vocals from the Sunday Service Choir.[6]
