Background[]

Before The Album[]

Kanye West and Chance the Rapper, both hailing from Chicago, have a history of collaboration and mutual admiration. They first joined forces on West's 2016 album, The Life Of Pablo, with Chance contributing a memorable verse to the opening track "Ultralight Beam", while also having recorded multiple reference tracks for that album and ye. The two artists have consistently expressed their admiration for each other's work and the influence they have had on one another's careers.[1] In May 2016, Chance revealed in an interview with Zane Lowe that he and Ye attempted to resurrect Good Ass Job, saying: "It's definitely far from done. It's something that gets brought up in conversation every once and a while".[2] On September 17, 2018, Ye made a surprise appearance at Chance's Open Mic event, revealing that he and Chance were making a collaborative album titled Good Ass Job.[3][4]

Recording[]

Leaks from the album have shown that Chance and Ye began recording for the album as early as August 28. In an interview with FOX 32 News, Ye revealed that he and Chance were recording the album in Chicago.[5]

Cancellation & Aftermath[]

While the album was officially confirmed, no official announcements or releases would follow. Yandhi was being worked on around the same time and also never released (in its original form). The album was presumed to have been scrapped in 2019, especially after the release of JESUS IS KING. In 2020, during the Wyoming DONDA sessions, Chance was there to "check" on Kanye and ended up getting yelled at.[6]

The original beat for "Hurricane" was made during a session with Chance, Nascent, and BoogzDaBeast.[7] After Chance passed on the beat, Ye immediately used it for himself. Boogz revealed that the beat inspired him to create Yandhi.[8] After as many as seventy-two different revisions of the song in the next few years, it was finally released on Donda (2021).

The song, "How To Go Crazy", was morphed into "The Big Day" from Chance's album of the same name. However, Ye did not receive any credits for the song.

Songs[]

Similarly to Yandhi, Good Ass Job featured psychedelic beats with prominent synths. No track lists from the album have leaked, but there are several songs from the album that have leaked.

Several demo tracks with no names have also leaked.
