The track was created in 2014 for Kanye West's album 'So Help Me God' shares similarities with the initial 2015 version of 'SWISH', especially in its rhythm, but with stronger drums. It features vocals from Madonna and reference vocals from Mez. The first verse is completed and partly included in the final version, while the second verse mainly consists of mumble lyrics not revisited later. Mez's vocals finish Kanye’s mumble verse. [1]
The track was then mentioned by Young Thug’s music video producer El DeBarge in a now deleted tweet, "Hold up, Now that I think about it… WE ARE ON THIS… I remember the song title b/c I wrote it down, I think… I have it written down in my phone.. I just know the song wasn't really done. But thug re sang the hook and added a verse." This was likely done in early 2015 / late 2014 at the same time as "Nina Chop", as a popular fake album tracklist from mid March was consist of collaborators that had El DeBarge included.
On September 19, 2023, a version was leaked that is similar to the previous release but more structured. It contains fewer mumble bars than before. This version has a rough take of the first verse from the release version, a second verse that resembles the official second verse but includes alternate lines and some mumble, and a third verse that is completely absent from the official release. The instrumental features new marching band-style additions, as well as skit-like samples placed between the hooks and verses. Additionally, there are new vocals compared to the previous version and vice versa.[2]

- The word "light" had been included in titles of other Kanye tracks "Flashing Lights", "Street Lights" and "All of the Lights" in the past. The Life of Pablo tracks "Ultralight Beam", "Low Lights" and "Highlights" all include the word in their titles.
