"Intro" is a song by Virginia Beach rapper and former GOOD president Pusha T that was released as a song to his third solo studio album, King Push: Darkest Before Dawn - The Prelude (2015).[1] As the title would suggest, the song serves as the opening track to the record and features vocals from Chental Kreviazuk and Clipse collaborator Mr. Lee.[2]

The song features production from Metro Boomin, G Koop, as well as New York rapper Diddy and additional uncredited production from SAK PASE.[3]

Production[]

The song features production from Metro Boomin, G Koop, Diddy, and uncredited additional production from producer SAK PASE.[4] The song's beat is heavily built off of the unreleased Chental Kreviazuk Thank God For Drugs demo "No More Games".

The song is played in the A♭ key with a major mode and runs at a tempo of 93 BPM in 4/4 time.[5]

Background[]

Like "Emotions" which was repurposed into a Jennifer Lopez song, this song began as a reference by Chental Kreviazuk for Kanye West titled "No More Games" and had been intended for his album at the time, Thank God For Drugs.[6] Whether West had ever recorded for the idea is unclear, though the song was very likely to have been scrapped following Rick Rubin's involvement in the album which would result in the album being reworked into Yeezus (2013).[7]

The song would eventually make its way into Pusha T's possession and the beat would be heavily reworked by Metro Boomin, G Koop, and Diddy for Pusha T's next solo studio album, King Push: Darkest Before Dawn - The Prelude (2015). Pusha T as well as Mr. Lee, who previously had worked with Pusha T through Clipse off their album Hell Hath No Fury on the opening track "We Got It for Cheap (Intro)".[8]

The song would release on December 18 as the opening track to the record.

Lyrics[]

[Intro: Mr. Lee & Chantal Kreviazuk]
Over time I've come to realize
That I was trying to be three people at a time
One for me and one for you and one for them
Espera, ven aquí, who you wanna be? Drug Dealer? Demon? Rap n***a? You tryna save the culture? Ay Dios mío. You gotta pick one, daddy

[Verse: Pusha T]
Leave your conscience at the door
We done hid the monsters in the floor
I speak to the trap lords
And n***as wit their hands in the white like blackboards
I done been black balled
And never gave a fuck ‘cause I’m Jack Frost
Of sellin’ that blast off
I’m on a crash course
Where talent meets timing
Christopher Wallace, Think Big, keep climbing
Reasonable doubt, drug era, keep climbing
I’m my brother’s keeper, Lord Willin’, keep grindin’
As a God amongst men
Rinsed drug money, I done paid for my sins
Books and the lawyers, I done paid for my friends
Still held back, I done paid with my skin
The only thing missing is a cape on me
You n***as wanna tag a late, great on me
Put the fears in my peers, heard my footsteps coming from the rear
Now it’s murder was the case homie
I’m watching this three ring circus
Old lions don’t roar, so the clowns ain’t nervous
Even you fools serve purpose
Let ‘em run amuck until the king resurface
Then it’s off with your heads
Wear your little jewels, you could floss when you’re dead
They take samples of ‘em, I make examples of ‘em
It’s the thrill of the hunt, I keep my mantle covered
Ask ‘Ye who’s loyalty more realer
Ask P, who’s core’s a drug dealer
Me and Tim, it's coming, it’s gonna kill ‘em
The only great I ain’t made better was J. Dilla
Now we breaking new ground
Get ready for the placing of the crown
King Push n***a!

[Outro: Mr. Lee]
A Pablito le dieron pa’ bajo, but I’m still here, y el otro tipo? he’s running, but I’m still here, I don’t even know why you doing this loco, yo ni se pa' que, but always still right here. You wanna be like them, don’t you huh? you’re not like them… Y definitivamente, they’re not like us
