"It's Almost Dry" is GOOD Music ex-president Pusha T's fifth solo studio album as well as his last album under the label before cutting ties in 2022.[1] The album is twelve tracks long and has a total run time of 36 minutes.[2]

Like Thornton's previous album, DAYTONA, It's Almost Dry features executive production from Kanye West as well as Pharrell Williams throughout, with West producing 5 tracks and Pharrell producing 6 and the both of them producing the track "Rock N Roll" together.[3] The song features guest appearances from the artists JAY-Z, Kid Cudi, Lil Uzi Vert, Don Toliver, Nigo, Labrinth as well as ex-Clipse member No Malice alongside features from both of the album's executive producers.[4] The album also features production from 88-Keys, Ojivolta, BoogzDaBeast, FNZ, Labrinth, Luca Starz and ThaMyind.

The album's been met with two rereleases titled "Pharrell vs. Ye" and "Ye vs. Pharrell" in which the track list had been reordered in order to place the tracks produced by Kanye/Pharrell ahead of the other artist's.[5]

Background[]

Though DAYTONA, Push's previous album had been released in 2018 no known production based around It's Almost Dry would begin until 2021. During late-April of 2021 during Kanye's time in Pio Pico art gallery in which he was working on Donda, Pusha T and him had worked extensively, with the songs being created from around this time period being "Rock N Roll", "Diet Coke", "I Pray For You" and "Shotta".[6] He would also record for "Dreamin Of The Past during these sessions, though the song had not been in his possession at this time.[7]

After failing to find use on a final Donda track list past June 2021, Dreamin Of the Past was given to Pusha T for his album It's Almost Dry. It's unclear when Push's sessions with Pharrell Williams began.

The album's initial title is believed to have been It’s Not Dry Yet, as accidentally revealed by YouTube's strike system on January 14, 2022.[8] However, Pusha T would later confirm the album had not been titled that in an interview with Complex.

The first single for the record, “Diet Coke,” produced by Kanye West and 88-Keys was released on February 8, 2022.[9] It was released alongside a music video.[10]

The second single was released under Nigo and had been intended as a single to his album I Know NIGO!. The song had also made a place on Pusha's final album as well.

The final single, "Neck & Wrist" was met with a release on April 6. The same day, Push announced the It’s Almost Dry Tour and confirmed the album’s reported title.[11]

On April 18, 2022, Pusha T announced that a public listening party would be held in New York that same week. Later that day, Push officially announced the album’s release date while sharing a snippet from the then-unreleased, “I Pray For You.” The album ended up leaking on the same day, four days before its official release. The following day, Push officially announced the album’s artwork and the tracklist.

Artwork and Title[]

The artwork chosen for "It's Almost Dry" features a chaotically-colored rusted-appearing background with the title written over it as created by Sterling Ruby.[12]

In an interview with the Rolling Stone magazine on April 29 of 2022, Pusha T explained the meaning of the album's real title, stating "I'm always creating a masterpiece and in the creation of that in terms of a painting, you end up telling people while they waiting on it, 'It's almost dry,' because they're always asking, 'When will it be done?' And you have to wait on masterpieces. Also in drug culture, a lot of times you'll have people waiting on the product and it's not dry yet. You can come get it when it's dry."[13]
