Jeen-Yuhs (stylized as jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy) is a documentary film directed by Coodie & Chike about the life of rapper, record producer, businessman, and fashion designer Kanye West and the development of his debut studio album, The College Dropout (2004).
Production[]
In early 2021, it was reported that Netflix had acquired a documentary about Kanye West with unseen archival footage from the past 21 years, including his career in music and fashion; the death of his mother, Donda West; and his unsuccessful 2020 presidential campaign.[1][2][3][4] Variety reported that Netflix acquired the documentary for around US $30 million.
The documentary's announcement came on September 25, 2021, when Netflix revealed that the documentary would be titled Jeen-Yuhs and release in 2022, with a "First Look" video released that starred Mos Def and Ye himself, back when Ye was known as "K. West."[1][5][6][7][8]
On January 10, 2022, Netflix shared a video that described the documentary as a "three week event," still scheduled to begin on February 16.[9][10] Just eleven days later, Ye posted on Instagram his demands to have a final say on the documentary. Later the same day, the directors refused his request.[11] Netflix went ahead to post the film's official trailer on YouTube on February 4.[12]
Ye made another request on February 7 for Drake to narrate the documentary.[13]
