There were a few listening parties that were held for Kanye West's ninth studio album Jesus Is King (2019), with the most noted being the Detroit, NYC, and DC shows. The shows have come to be referred to as the Jesus Is King listening parties, JIK listening parties, or even JIK LPs for short.

The events were officially labeled "Jesus Is King: A Kanye West Experience" for the most part. Seemingly all events made use of YONDR pouches to make them phone-free events, though some fans have slipped quick footage of some of the shows.

The concept of visiting multiple states for listening parties was reused for the Donda rollout, where Ye held LPs in Nevada, Georgia, and Illinois.

Detroit[]

The first listening party, titled Jesus Is King: A Kanye West Experience, was held in the Fox Theatre of Detroit, Michigan, on the night of September 27, 2019.[1] Two clips were shown before the show started, with one being a "mini-documentary that focused on architecture," and the other being from the Jesus Is King film. It was noted for the first time that the entire record was clean of vulgarity. It was also said that there was free merch given out the same time that some went on sale on Ye's site.[2][3] The songs that were played had minor changes from previous versions.[4]

Detroit Pistons player Derrick Rose was in attendance.[5]

Chicago[]

The second listening party was held at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, Illinois, on the night of September 28, 2019.[7] On the same night, Ye appeared as a surprise guest at a local Chance the Rapper concert.[8][9]

New York City[]

The third listening party was held on September 29, at the United Palace Theatre in NYC.[10][11] The date of the event coincided with a postponed release date that Kim Kardashian gave just days prior.[12][5] The unreleased album cover art featuring the 1408 Andrei Rublev painting "Ascension of Jesus"[13] was used during this listening party and displayed on the screen on stage.[12] A clip of the album's accompanying film was also played at the beginning.[12]

Washington DC[]

A listening party was held at the Lisner Auditorium in Washington, DC, on October 12.[16] Pusha T and Kim Kardashian were in attendance, with Push behind Ye during the show.[17] Ant Clemons sang the chorus to "Water" live.[18]

Inglewood[]

The final JIK listening party was at The Forum on the day of November 3 2019. The exterior of the venue was lit up with the words "JESUS IS KING."[20][21] As with the other shows, phones were not permitted and locked in "magnetically sealed neoprene sock."[22]
