You are reading the article about the song, "Jesus Is Lord". You may have been looking for "Jesus Lord".

"Jesus Is Lord" (originally titled "Baptized"[1]) is the eleventh and final track from Kanye West's ninth studio album, JESUS IS KING (2019).[2] The song's title and lyrics are derived from Philippians 2:10-11.[3][4]

Production[]

The song samples Claude Léveillée's 1978 song, "Un Homme Dans La Nuit".[5] The record label of the sampled song, Audiogram, asked how Kanye could have found the song since it is not on any streaming services. As a result, Claude was credited as a writer for the song.[3]

Background[]

On August 29, 2019, Kanye's then-wife Kim Kardashian posted a track list of JESUS IS KING, which revealed that "Baptized" would be the fifth track on the album.[6] Sometime after this tweet, the track would be renamed to "Jesus Is Lord". On October 24, Kanye revealed a new version of JIK's track list, which saw "Jesus Is Lord" as the eleventh and final track.[1] Some leaks of the song show that it was originally meant to be longer and feature a trap beat.[7]

An extended version of the song was featured in the ending credits of Kanye's 2019 film, Jesus Is King.[8]

Lyrics[]

[Verse]
Every knee shall bow
Every tongue confess
Jesus is Lord
Jesus is Lord
Every knee shall bow
Every tongue confess
Jesus is Lord
Jesus is Lord
