"Joyride" (formerly known as "Padded Walls") is a song by Californian singer Tinashe that serves as the second track to her third studio album of the same name, Joyride {2018).[1] The song features production done by Hit-Boy as well as additional uncredited production from Allen Ritter.[2]

The song is primarily produced by Hit-Boy and Allen Ritter. The song runs at a tempo of 99 BPM in the B♭ key with a major mode and an alt-key of 8B.[3]
Background[]
The song was initially created in August 2012 by Kanye West in a session between him and Hit-Boy for the album Kanye had been working on at the time, Thank God For Drugs and had initially been titled "Padded Walls".[4] Though the featured artist Azealia Banks had finished her verse, this verse had already been finished for a year as she had initially recorded for "Creepers" with Kid Cudi and Kanye had only partially finished his. The song would be shelved for the months to come. In December of that year GOOD Music label signee Teyana Taylor would record a reference for Kanye, though it was unused as the initial take would be used going forward but with the mumble portions cut out in January of the following year.[5] Past January, the song was not touched again for either Thank God For Drugs or Yeezus.
Instead, either Kanye himself or Hit-Boy had handed the song off to GOOD label signee Travis Scott for his album at the time, Rodeo (2015) in 2014.[6] Travis alongside Tinashe would record for the song and had at one point been intended for his album, though Tinashe had also wanted the song for herself and planned for it to be the title track to her own album. Due to both artists believing they owned the song, Travis eventually sent the song over to Rihanna for chorus ideas who used both Tinashe's and Travis' verses as references. However, it seemed now Rihanna had also believed the song was hers and placed the track on early tracklistings for her album ANTI (2016).[7] As a result, Travis ended up not using the song for his album and the song further down the line caused issues with both Rihanna and Tinashe's album releases, causing Rihanna to remove it from ANTI and Tinashe to completely change her album into Nightride.[8]
Two years after failing to release on either of their albums, Tinashe picked up work on Joyride again after purchasing it back from Rihanna. The song had been intended to feature Travis Scott, though his feature ended up being cut from final release. The song was finally met with an official release date on April 13, 2018.[9]
