Junya Junya pt 2 Junya (Remix)

"Junya pt 2" is a song by Kanye West that was released as a bonus track as a part of West's tenth studio album, Donda (2021).[1] The song serves as a remix to the Donda main track list song "Junya" and features an extended Playboi Carti verse in place of West's fourth verse as well as an entirely new verse from Ty Dolla $ign.[2]

The song serves as the third of four bonus tracks added to the original Donda album, placing it as the twenty-sixth track on the record.[3] On the deluxe edition of the album, the song had been moved to the thirtieth track instead.[4] Differing from the rest of the gospel-themed album, the song features more braggadocios themes, the song serving as a tribute to Japanese fashion designer Junya Watanabe who is mentioned in the song's chorus.[5]

Production[]

The song features production done by West himself alongside Ojivolta, Digital Nas, Roark Bailey, and Twisco, the song's beat built around a church organ, featuring a heavy bass and claps throughout the song substituting for the use of drums.[6] The song runs at a tempo of 148 BPM in the G key with a major mode and is played in 4/4 time.

Background[]

Main article: Junya

Ty Dolla $ign would meet up with West in June 2021 to record references that Kanye had intended to use, "Junya" being one of them. Although at this time Ty's verse was completely unrelated to the song's sequel and West had never recorded for this reference, when the sequel had been worked on in later months Ty would revisit this verse and rerecord it for the remix.[7]

At first, it appears there was no planned "Junya" remix and what released as the part 2 track was initially intended to be what released as base Junya on the main track list, as the filename to the song was seemingly only bounced as a mix test for the base song.[8] Given one of the further along mix tests made around the same time appeared on a track listing for August 26th, Ty presumably re-recorded his reference verse for a feature some time late-August.[9]

Ty's verse had not been played at any of the Donda listening parties and had been completely unheard up until release. The song would release on August 29th of that same year as the thirtieth track to Donda.[1] It was later relocated to the thirtieth track after the deluxe release on November 1st.[4]
