K.T.S.E. (abbreviation for "Keep That Same Energy") is the second studio album by American artist Teyana Taylor, released on June 22, 2018, through GOOD Music and Def Jam Recordings.[1]
In an interview with Hot 97 in March 2018, Teyana Taylor revealed that she had been working on music with Kanye West in Wyoming. She referred to him as "Polo 'Ye," hinting at his return to his earlier "Polo-shirt roots," reminiscent of the production style from The College Dropout. [2]The album was released on June 22, 2018, as part of the Wyoming project. Notably, Kanye was still finishing the album during his flight to the release party, which was confirmed in a tweet by Kim Kardashian.
K.T.S.E dropped unfinished with Taylor initially stated that "K.T.S.E." would receive post release updates similar to The Life of Pablo, once the samples were cleared. However, on July 2, 2018, Taylor announced that the album would no longer be updated. [3]Instead, she mentioned that extended versions of the songs might be released through future visuals.[4]
"We Got Love" Was supposed to be the ninth track to the album, however the song was excluded due to an uncleared Billy Stewart sample. She later performed a remixed version of "We Got Love" with Kanye West on Saturday Night Live on September 29, 2018. On October 1, 2018, the duo recorded a music video for the song at the TMZ offices[5], indicating that it would appear on West's album, Yandhi. After Yandhi was scrapped, Taylor released "We Got Love" as a single in December 2019. She later included "We Got Love" as the closing track on "The Album" in 2020.[6]
This was the first and is the onlyWyoming release to break the era's 7-track album formula. Even excluding the ninth track which is a remix to "Gonna Love Me" which was added months after the album's initial release, the album still features eight tracks instead of the traditional seven.
