Kimberly Noel Kardashian West (born October 21, 1980) is an American media personality, socialite, model, and businesswoman.[1] She was married to Kanye West on May 24, 2014, and had a near-seven year marriage with him until their separation in 2021.[2][3]
History[]
Ye and Kim first met on the set for Alligator Boots in 2009. Alligator Boots was a comedy show that Ye was working on but never got past its pilot episode.[4] A year later, the song "Lost In the World" was released as part of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010). Ye would later confirm that his verse in the song was a poem that he wrote for Kim.[5][6]
You're my devil, you're my angel / You're my heaven, you're my hell / You're my now, you're my forever / You're my freedom, you're my jail / You're my lies, you're my truth / You're my war, you're my truce / You're my questions, you're my proof / You're my stress and you're my masseuse
His love for Kim is most apparent on the song "Awesome," which was originally recorded during the Watch The Throne (2011) sessions. It went unreleased but made a brief appearance in Keeping Up With The Kardashians.[7] She made an appearance in the music video for "Closed on Sunday" in 2019.
The two remained married for almost eight years before Kim began initiating a divorce in the early days of 2021.[8] The process went on to take over a year, with Kim being legally declared single the following March.[9] The ongoing separation process became the subject of some lyrics of Donda (2021), most obviously on the track "Never Abandon Your Family."
In late 2021, Kim began to be seen with SNL comedian Pete Davidson, which prompted Ye to launch some attacks at him on social media early the following year. This is when the derogatory nickname "SKETE" arose. Some lyrics on Donda 2 (2022) are themed around this frustration with Pete and the divorce process. Kim and Pete went on to separate in August of the same year.[10]
Even with his frustration with the Kardashian family and Pete, Ye continued to convey the message that he wants to maintain a good relationship with his kids, as sung on Donda. However, he has noted the separation has made the relationships different, with Ye likening visiting them like "[scanning] 'em like a bar code" on the 2022 track "True Love" with XXXTENTACION.[11]
With Ye, she has had four children: daughter North (b. June 15, 2013), son Saint (b. December 5, 2015), daughter Chicago (b. January 15, 2018), and son Psalm (b. May 9, 2019.)[12]
