"LIFESTYLE" is a song by ¥$ (Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign) that was released as the eighth track from his second studio album, VULTURES 2, on August 3, 2024.[1] It features a guest verse from Lil Wayne.[2]
Production[]
The song is built off an already-existing beat by Nico Baran titled "LOVE IS GONE".[3] According to Rodri, the sample the song utilized was originally meant for Drake.[4] The song's drums are also sampled from Led Zeppelin's 1971 song, "When the Levee Breaks".[5] Throughout the song, vocals can be heard which were sampled from the Beastie Boys' 1986 song, "The New Style".
Background[]
The beat to the song "LOVE IS GONE" by Nico Baran was initially created in 2023 and released as a single by the producer Nico Baran.[6] The initial song by Ty Dolla $ign that was created with intent for his solo album was created around this time.
The song was first seen on a tracklist for VULTURES 1 posted by Ty Dolla $ign on December 8, 2023, in which it was listed as the thirteenth track.[7] It was first previewed at the Las Vegas afterparty on December 15.[1] However, it was removed from the VULTURES 1 tracklist before the new tracklist was revealed on January 31, 2024, and it did not release on the album.
In an Instagram post by Ye on February 15, he confirmed that the song would be featured on VULTURES 2. He also stated that Wayne mentioned Travis Kelsey, Taylor Swift's boyfriend, in his verse.[8] On April 29. a reference from an artist was recorded intended to serve as Kanye's verse on the song, though the vocals were too low quality to tell who recorded it.[9] Although this verse was not used, it was interpolated and reused in the song "HUSBAND".
In May, Luit stated that "Lifestyle" was still set to release on the album after the rework, but the production was heavily revamped, though what the rework was is unclear as the beat in release is nearly sonically identical to the April 29 copy of the song.[10] The interlude "ISABELLA" was also likely once one with the song as it was featured in the song on initial release.[11]
The song was released officially on August 3rd, 2024 as track eight of VULTURES 2.[12] Its second half, "HUSBAND" was accidentally added to the track list and prelisted its appearance on "LIFESTYLE".[13] When the track listing was fixed on August 8, "HUSBAND" still prelisted before its first half "LIFESTYLE" for unclear reasons.[14] The song was continually reworked throughout the year, with the "HUSBAND" outro and "ISABELLA" interlude being cut, the quacking sample being turned down, the mixing slightly changed and the song turned clean on August 8.[15]
