"Let It Go" is an unreleased song by Kanye West created in 2017 for his album LOVE EVERYONE. The song is said to feature production done from Andrew Dawson and MIKE DEAN and was later brought back for further along albums JESUS IS KING and DONDA: WITH CHILD.[1]
Production[]
Earlier versions of the song feature a sample of "Make A Joyful Noise" by Juanita Ellis.[2] The song runs at a tempo of 83 BPM in the E♭ key with a minor mode.[3]
Background[]
The song dates back to as early as 2017 for Kanye West's album at the time titled LOVE EVERYONE. The lyrics to the song had been seen in the lyrics notepad for the album, reading out:
I used to be the party then I stopped getting invited to em
Should I say call or write it to em
Let it go
Let it roll off of you
If they offended you
Don't worry bout what was offered you
It was all for you
Even if they assulted you
This too shall pass
Member you lost your family tryna chase some ass
I already move like I'm worth a billion
Cause I know my name is worth a trillion
Despite the lyrics being completely finished, the only known Kanye freestyle for the song recorded during this time period consisted of mumble singing.[4] The first snippet to this version of the song was found in a Bon Iver file though it's unclear if the group ever did any work on it.
Consequence would later go on to record a reference for the song during this time period, though the beat had been completely reworked into a more sample-based one with a sample of Juanita Ellis' "Make A Joyful Noise".[4]
The song was described to have "a MIKE DEAN synth outro and Dawson production and sample pitching" and "Kanye singing beautifully", likely referring to the copy of the song that created when album directions had shifted into ye which had been confirmed to have sounded completely different from earlier versions of the song. The song was intended for release on ye and had served as the closing track on an earlier copy of the album, though had been scrapped last minute.[5]
The song was shelved for the following year but had been brought back in 2019 for JESUS IS KING with a reference from Rhymefest.[6] The song appeared on a track listing for the album around August 2019 as the sixth track and later on a 37-track rendition for the album alongside "Off The Meds", though again had been shelved.[7]
The song was yet again brought back in 2020 for the DONDA: WITH CHILD sessions. On November 22nd, the song was given to Kanye's choir the Sunday Service Choir to write an idea for that was intended for their EP Emmanuel, though the song did not release onto the EP and had been scrapped from this point on.[8]
