Kanye West has gotten into feuds or beefs with various celebrities. Below is a list of beefs that he is in, organized from oldest to newest.
Active[]
Taylor Swift (2009-)[]
Kanye West's self-imposed rivalry against Taylor Swift dates back to his infamous interruption at the 2009 VMAs. The incident led him to redirect his plans to make the album Good Ass Job and instead go into a self-imposed exile where he recorded his hit album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010). The album contained themes of admitting fault and attempting to get back up, with many seeing the album as his chance to "make-or-break" a comeback from such a controversial incident.
Though Kanye made a series of apologies shortly after the incident, he took them back later on in his career. Nonetheless, the hostility between the two artists seemed to fade as they both went on to have successful careers. Things changed seven years later when Kanye opened his track "Famous" from The Life of Pablo (2016) with a set of lines that sparked its own controversy:
For all my South Side n***as that know me best
I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex
Why? I made that bitch famous (Goddamn!)
I made that bitch famous
Though the album that it came from enkjhjkhjkhjded up being celebrated by fans and media, the line attracted its own controversy. Kanye's team claimed that Ye and Swift had a lengthy discussion over the phone about the line before the song was released, which Swift's team denied.[1][2] When Swift accepted her reward for 1989 as Album of the Year at the 2016 Grammys, she seemed to have shaded Ye when she said, "those people along the way who are going to try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame."[3]
Kanye's wife Kim Kardashian would go on to share an edited video of the two artists talking, which did prove that the conversation took place, but in early 2020, the full video leaked, proving that the full lines weren't shared with Taylor before release.[4] Apart from Ye hinting at referring to Swift as a snake that summer, the two artists haven't interacted in public and the two seem to still be on bad terms.[5] In 2023, after becoming TIME Person of the Year, Taylor would state that the beef with Kim and Kanye was like a "career death" to her.[6]
The music video for "Famous" also features the fake nude body of Taylor Swift laying in bed with Kanye West, alongside numerous other celebrities including Ye's then-wife Kim Kardashian.[7]
Cast of Saturday Night Live (2009-)[]
Ye said that SNL could "kiss [his] whole ass" on the 2010 single "Power," written in response to them making fun of his controversy at the 2009 VMAs. Ironically, though, former SNL cast member Chris Rock proceeded to appear in the skit at the end of "Blame Game" from the same album. Ye's relationship with SNL seemed to allow him to perform "Black Skinhead" and "New Slaves" in 2013, as well as "Highlights" and "Ultralight Beam" in 2016.[8]
Kanye last performed on SNL on the show's forty-forth season premiere on September 25, 2018, the same night that he said he would release Yandhi. After performing "I Love It," "We Got Love," and "Ghost Town," he gave an off-script speech about his decision to wear a Make America Great Again hat, among other things. In the speech, he claimed that the SNL cast "bullied" him into not wearing the hat, something that cast member Pete Davidson declined. Pete would go on to make light of the situation in a later "Weekend Update" performance, which included a joke where he said he prefers Ye on his meds instead of off of them. He also wore a "Make Kanye 2006 Again" hat.[9] This sparked a whole beef between Ye and the comedian that is likely at the forefront of Ye's hostility against the whole show.
Kanye was apparently banned from SNL in 2022, following his feud with Pete Davidson ("Skete").[10]
Writers of South Park (2010-)[]
The 2009 South Park episode titled "Fishsticks" appeared to be received well by Kanye at first, but he said "choke a South Park writer with a fishstick" on "Gorgeous" a year later.[11][12][13] He also rapped a similar line on "Made in America" from the Watch The Throne album.[14] Over a decade since the episode aired, an alternate version of "Life of the Party" surfaced with a similar line to the "Gorgeous" one.[15]
In 2013, South Park made another jab at Kanye and even his then-wife, Kim Kardashian, in the Season 17 episode "The Hobbit". The 2023 South Park episode titled "Cupid Ye" made fun of Kanye's offensive statements against Jewish people and his praise for Adolf Hitler.[16]
John Legend (2018-)[]
Ye and John Legend have had a long history working together, with Legend being the first artist to sign to Ye's GOOD Music label in 2004, and also appearing on many songs together. Their feud started after John Legend expressed concern for Ye's political views in 2018, when he publicly endorsed then-incumbent president Donald Trump on Twitter. Although they soon resolved their differences shortly after, Legend claims to have cut his ties with Ye around the time that he ran for president in 2020, saying in a New Yorker profile that "he thought friendships should not be determined by 'who they voted for,' but that 'certain things you believe in are indicators of your character, and obviously that will affect your friendships.'[17] Ye mentioned John in the middle of his October 2022 rants in response to the "White Lives Matter" shirt controversy.[18]
Drake (2018-)[]
Drake and Ye's working relationship soured once Pusha T, a colleague of Ye's, started his own beef with Drake. Push went on to reveal that Drake had a child, which was not public knowledge, and seemingly only known by a few people including Ye.[19][20] Ye and his colleagues also confirmed that the track "Lift Yourself" could have been a legitimate track by Drake, but Ye put out nonsensical lyrics on it so that Drake couldn't use it.[21]
Their rivalry went a bit quiet over the years, but Ye reinvigorated some competition between the two as their albums Donda and Certified Lover Boy were about to be released around the same time in late summer 2021. Drake "leaked" "Life of the Party" before it was released on the album's deluxe version. In November of that year, Ye invited Drake to perform at a benefit concert for Larry Hoover, which he accepted.[22] They hyped each other up and sung some of each other's songs in a livestreamed performance the following month.[23]
Kanye seemed to have reignited the beef in 2024, seemingly out of nowhere, by saying "fuck Drake for taking Durk right at the beginning of the Vultures role out [sic]" though Drake seems to have addressed said statement by being confused.[24][25]
Additionally, on April 21st, 2024, Kanye appeared on a remix of Future, Metro Boomin, and Kendrick Lamar's song, "Like That", alongside Ty Dolla Sign. Similar to the original song, it has disses directed towards Drake and J. Cole.
Pete Davidson (2018-)[]
After Kanye West made a controversial rant about wearing his Make America Great Again hat on SNL on September 25, 2018, comedian Pete Davidson would go on to joke about Kanye's behavior on the show. At one point, he joked about preferring Kanye to be on his bipolar medications instead of off of them. This led Ye to record what is known as the "final version" of "Slave Name," which includes some screaming pointed at Pete's remarks.[26]
Years later, Kanye's wife Kim Kardashian would go on to file divorce. The process took all of 2021 and lasted into the first quarter of 2022 before she was fully recognized as legally single.[27] By early 2022, Kim was visibly dating Pete, which led Ye to make a series of Instagram rants towards the comedian that February. Around this time, Ye started calling him "Skete," in reference to a vulgar slang term. Even after Kim and Pete broke up that August, Ye posted an image on Instagram that features a headline claiming that Pete was found dead at 28.[28] It was reported that Pete went into trauma therapy due to these high-profile personal attacks.[29]
Kardashian family (2021-)[]
Ye's issues with the Kardashian family center around their relationship to his ex-wife Kim, who divorced from Ye in 2021.[30][27] In January 2022, Ye claimed that the family kept him from Chicago's own birthday party in January 2022, and was only allowed in once Travis Scott got something to work.[31] Ye has made claims that the Kardashian family has used the media against him and his fatherhood, something that his recent ally Candace Owens has echoed on social media.[32]
When Kim's sister Khloé defended Kim's parenting in October 2022, Ye initiated a beef specifically towards her and brought up the birthday party story on social media.[33]
Talib Kweli (2021-2024)[]
After Ye cast shade at Talib Kweli in his 2021 Drink Champs interview, Talib snapped back by sharing pics of the "ghostwriters" for Ye. He also shared on social media that Ye lied about his opinions on Talib's raps and that he had lied to Talib about no longer supporting Trump. He also shared a claim that longtime-collaborator Rick Rubin was responsible for connecting Ye with Candace Owens.[34]
Trevor Noah (2022-)[]
Ye used a racial slur when referring to 2022 Grammys host and comedian Trevor Noah, which resulted in the institution banning Ye from performing at the ceremony. Noah tried to ease relations around the same time that it was reported that he had no role in the Academy's decision to suspend Ye. This one-sided beef started in the wake of Ye's rants against comedian Pete Davidson.[35][36]
The beef remained dormant for half a year until Ye randomly namedropped Noah in the middle of his IG rant towards Vogue editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, marking the second time that his name has been caught in the crossfire.[37]
Adidas (2022-)[]
Ye has worked with Adidas for many years for Yeezy production. Their business relationship soured in early August 2022 when Ye said that the brand was doing Yeezy Day without his involvement.[38] In September of the same year, he started beefing with their CEO Kasper Rørsted and started speaking of his desire to exit all commercial partnerships, including Adidas.[39][40] On October 6, 2022, Adidas announced that their partnership with Yeezy was under review, likely due to the controversy surrounding Ye's decision to wear a "White Lives Matter" shirt at Yeezy Season 9, as well as Ye's recent comments on ending partnerships, including having already ended YZY x GAP.[41] The beef would ensue throughout 2024, as Kanye proudly declared "FUCK ADIDAS" multiple times in early 2024.[42][43]
Gabriella Karefa-Johnson (2022-)[]
Gabriella Karefa-Johnson is an editor for Vogue that wrote an article that condemned Ye for wearing a "White Lives Matter" shirt at Yeezy Season 9. The writing prompted Ye to clown her on Instagram. In the wake of the insults, Vogue, Gigi Hadid, and Hailey Bieber all defended her.[37][44][45][46]
Gigi Hadid (2022-)[]
Gigi Hadid corrected Ye by saying Gabriella Karefa-Johnson's first name is Gabriella not Gabrielle. Karefa-Johnson is an editor for Vogue that published an article that condemned Ye for wearing a "White Lives Matter" shirt at Yeezy Season 9, and was "bullied" online by Ye in response to her piece.[46]
Hailey and Justin Bieber (2022-)[]
Hailey Bieber has defended Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, an author who spoke against Ye's decision to wear a "White Lives Matter" shirt at Yeezy Season 9. Ye has urged Justin Bieber to "get [his] girl before [he] gets mad."[44][45] Even though Hailey never spoke against Ye directly, Ye still attacked her and thus it was reported on October 8 that Justin terminated him and Ye's friendship.[47]
Lil Boosie and Puff Diddy (2022-)[]
Lil Boosie and Puff Diddy spoke up against Ye's decision to wear a shirt that reads "White Lives Matter" at Yeezy Season 9. Ye called Boosie a "nerd" and Diddy a "fed" on October 7.[48] Fans would declare that Kanye's beef with Diddy was resonable, following his 2023 sexual assault lawsuit.[49] Despite this, he was present at the VULTURES Rolling Loud "performance".[50]
Donald Trump (2022-)[]
Ye became adversarial to Donald Trump after he had dinner with him in which he was told that he can't win the presidency in 2024.[51]
Ben Shapiro (2022-)[]
Ye teared into Ben Shapiro after Ben spoke against him in light of his antisemitism. In response, Ye tweeted "Shapiro starvingly accepts $100,000 from one of my opponents then tries to trash me."[52]
Elon Musk (2022-)[]
Elon Musk is an American billionaire that was on good terms with Ye as of 2020.[53] After having a role in Ye's suspension from Twitter in December 2022, Ye took to Twitter to take shots against Musk and suggest that he's "half-Chinese."[54] Musk had recently acquired Twitter and became the platform's CEO. He justified the suspension as violating Twitter's rules for "incitement of violence." Ye had tweeted an image of a swastika inside the Star of David.[55] His final post on Twitter, would be an unflattering shirtless picture of Elon, before he was indefinitely suspended.[56] Ye was unbanned from Twitter (now X) in 2023, citing that Ye had assured him that he wouldn't post hateful content in the future.[57] [58]In the song "CARNIVAL", Kanye raps a bar, "Elon where my rocket ship, it's time to go home".
YesJulz (2024-)[]
Julieanna Goddard, better known as YesJulz, was hired to work at YZY, some time in 2023, for the Vultures rollout. However, she created controversy in the community regarding the launch of VULTURES 2 in March 2024, and was fired shortly after for gross NDA violations, as well as an $8 million USD lawsuit being filed against her.[59][60]
Inactive[]
Nicki Minaj (2022)[]
Kanye and Nicki's relationship seemed to be on good terms, until Nicki said she doesn't "f--k with clowns" when she stopped a performance of "Monster" in July 2022.[61] Ye never responded directly to the situation, apart from quietly unfollowing her on Instagram.[62] The one-sided feud might have ended when Nicki thanked him for helping her in her career when she accepted the MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award the following month.[63] It should also be noted that Nicki refused to clear her verse for the Vultures release of New Body at the end of 2023, claiming "that train has left the station".[64]
Soulja Boy (2021-2022)[]
For some time, Soulja Boy was mad at Ye for leaving him off "Remote Control" from Donda (2021).[65] Soulja Boy ended up being featured on "First Time in a Long Time" from Donda 2 (2022), thanking Ye afterward.[66][67]
Kid Cudi (2022-)[]
Kanye and Cudi's friendship dates back to 2008, when Ye featured him on his 808s & Heartbreak album that year. The two even released the joint album KIDS SEE GHOSTS in 2018. Their friendship immediately turned sour in February 2022 when Ye turned his back on him just for being friends with Pete Davidson, the partner of Ye's ex-wife Kim. Cudi called him a "dinosaur" in response.[68] Later that same month, the track "SECURITY" (from Donda 2) dropped, opening with the line, "no, you can't be on my mama album." It's probably aimed at Cudi.[69]
Months later, Cudi replaced Ye as a headliner for Rolling Loud Miami 2022 after Ye withdrew last minute.[70] Angry Ye fans threw water bottles at Cudi, which prompted him to end his performance early. Meanwhile, Ye appeared on Lil Durk's set at virtually the same time and performed the Cudi-featured hit "Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1."[71][72]
Days after Kim and Pete broke up in August, Ye made an unprovoked shot at Cudi with an edited NYT front page headline reading "Kid Cudi meant to play funeral but fearful of bottle throwers."[73] Another post from a month later contained a headline reading, "I know what you’re thinking...who is Kasper? but even less importantly who is Kid Cudi?"[39]
Kanye West and Kid Cudi were seen hugging it out on Ant Clemons' Instagram Live amidst the release of his awaited album "Vultures", ending their feud. Cudi was planned to appear on "Gun to My Head", on Vultures, though it was later pushed back to VULTURES 2.
Mark Zuckerberg (2022-2024)[]
Just before he shared a controversial tweet that was panned as anti-Semitic in nature, Ye shared a tweet where he said, "look at this Mark. How you gone kick me off instagram. You used to be my n***a," along with a picture of him and Zuckerberg from years ago.[74] Ye was deactived on Instagram from April 18, 2023, to December 17, 2023.[75][76]
Ye changed his Instagram handle from @kanyewest to just @ye in 2024.[77]
