Kanye West Wiki

"MATTHEW" is an unreleased song by ¥$ (Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign) that was created for YEBU. The song features vocals from North West and Charlie Wilson.[1]

The song detracts away from the sexual themes heard in other VULTURES-era songs and has gospel elements.

Production[]

The song's intro and outro samples an interview by field athlete Sha'Carri Richardson after winning a gold medal at the 2023 U.S.A Outdoor Track and Field Championship.[2]

The song dates back to the solo Kanye album YEBU in 2023, hence it having a cleaner sound compared to other VULTURES era songs that date back to Beach House 4. The earliest version of the song is a mumble demo.

After Kanye flew out Bryson Gray after hearing his "Hood Rat" reference, he recorded a reference for the song, although his reference was directly taken from his song "Be Holy" upon Kanye's request.[3] This version of the song appeared on the final YEBU track list in June 2023 before the album direction shifted into Bad Bitch Play Book.

The song appeared as track 29 on the infamous 40-track rendition of Bad Bitch Play Book around October of 2023 as "MATHEW (Sha'Carri Richardson)".[4] It's unclear how different this track is from the YEBU copies, although it's likely Charlie Wilson is featured on the song at this point as he recorded his vocals for "RIVER" around this time period.

The song was first previewed at the Las Vegas listening party on December 15, 2023.[5] That same night during the afterparty the singer Faouzia recorded backing vocals for the song, although they were left unused.[6]

When VULTURES 1 had finally released, the song was not present. It had been carried into VULTURES 2 sessions and had been previewed at a listening party in San Francisco on March 12, 2024, though was never played again and was presumably scrapped from that point on.

When disclosing the B.B.P.B. 40-track track list, insider Saint Leon stated he would not disclose the twenty-ninth track to the album as it "had been considered for BULLY". He would later do so anyways and reveal the song was "MATTHEW", heavily implying the song has been recently brought back for BULLY.

Lyrics[]

[Intro: Sha'Carri Richardson]
And I'm ready, mentally, physically, and emotionally, and I’m here to stay
I'm not back, I’m better
And I’m ready, mentally, physically, and emotionally, and I’m here to stay
I’m not back, I’m better
And I’m ready, and I’m ready, and I’m ready
And I'm ready, and I'm ready, and I’m ready
And I’m ready, and I’m ready, and I’m ready
And I’m ready, and I’m ready, and I’m ready
And I’m ready
Mentally, physically, and emotional-
And I’m ready

[Chorus: Charlie Wilson, Kanye West, North West, & Ty Dolla $ign]
I know, it’s a little girl, standing by
Praying God will save our lives
I know, it’s a little boy, standing by
Praying God will save our lives
Save our lives
Save our lives
Save our lives
Save our lives
Save our lives
Save our lives
Save our lives
Savior

[Verse: North West]
Okay, I go on a plane, to get away from this fame
I know, it’s such a shame, I know, blue like my veins
I know, cutting short like bangs
I know, it’s just the same
I know, it’s so lame
I know, I know you feel my pain

[Chorus: Charlie Wilson, Kanye West, North West, & Ty Dolla $ign]
I know, it’s a little girl, standing by
Praying God will save our lives
I know, it’s a little boy, standing by
Praying God will save our lives
Save our lives
Save our lives
Save our lives
Save our lives
Save our lives
Save our lives
Save our lives
Savior

[Outro: Sha'Carri Richardson]
And I'm ready, mentally, physically, and emotionally, and I’m here to stay
I'm not back, I’m better
And I’m ready, mentally, physically, and emotionally, and I’m here to stay
I’m not back, I’m better
And I'm ready, and I'm ready, and I'm ready
And I’m ready, and I’m ready, and I’m ready
And I’m ready, and I’m ready, and I’m ready
And I’m ready, and I’m ready, and I’m ready
And I’m ready
Mentally, physically, and emotional-
And I’m ready
