"Mercy" (labeled "Mercy.1" on streaming services[1]) is a song by Kanye West that was released as a single on April 6, 2012.[2] It was later released as the third track from GOOD Music's compilation album, Cruel Summer, on September 14, 2012, serving as the second single from the album.[3][4] It features verses from 2 Chainz, Big Sean, and Pusha T.
A remix of the song, produced by RL Grime and Salva, was released as a single on June 28, 2012.[5]
Production[]
The song heavily samples Super Beagle's 1986 song, "Dust a Sound Boy".[6]
Background[]
The song was first previewed on the Hot 97 radio show and was released onto the internet via Kanye's website the next day.[7] According to Lifted, he had made the beat for the song in November 2011. His manager played it to Kanye, who then decided to work with Lifted.[7]
Music video[]
On June 6, 2012, Kanye released the music video for "Mercy" via his website. It was directed by Brandyn Tan, who has also directed some of Kanye's other music videos.[8] It was filmed in a parking lot at Qatar Foundation.
The video is noticeably shot at a very wide frame in black and white. 2 Chainz, Big Sean, Kanye, and Pusha T are all seen rapping as a Lamborghini sits behind them. Several other GOOD Music artists make cameos in the video, such as Kid Cudi, CyHi the Prynce, Teyana Taylor, and Mr. Hudson, among others.
