"Pray" is a song by Cordae released as a part of his junior studio album, The Crossroads on November 14, 2024.[1] The song features vocals from Ty Dolla $ign on the hook and production from Hitmaka and DJ Camper.[2]

Production[]

The song runs at a tempo of 96 and has a key of F major. It has a prominent vocal sample of "Killing Me Softly With His Song" by The Fugees.[3]

Background[]

The song was initially created what is believed to be the late-VULTURES 1 sessions in 2024. Very little is known about the song during this period other than that it featured production from Hitmaka. The song was previewed in a Wiz Khalifa vlog on January 13, 2024.[4] It's unclear if Kanye had ever recorded for the song at the earliest snippet of it previewed only the Ty vocals.[5]

The song was said by Pop to have been brought back into consideration pre-rework for VULTURES 2. It's unclear if it had been worked on much during these sessions or carried into post-rework production, although it is unlikely.

At some point, the song had been given to Cordae for his album The Crossroads. When initially teased, the song was confused for another VULTURES-era song of the same name, Pray.[6] The song had been met with an official release on November 14, 2024 as the ninth track to Cordae's album. The song leaked a day before its official release.[7]

Lyrics[]

[Chorus: Ty Dolla $ign]
When the money goes
Will you stick around? I might never know
I be gettin' high dealing with the lows
Even with the pain, never sell my soul
When the money's gone
You can see the snakes when the grass low
All eyes peeled on that backdoor
Woah, we might never know

[Post-Chorus: Ty Dolla $ign]
What goes up must come down
Till we come back around
Will my feet touch the ground?
Pray we never know (Woah)
Pray we never know (Woah)
Pray we never know (Woah)
Pray we never know (Woah)
Pray we never know

[Verse 1: Cordae]
What goes up comes down, ask around
Till the fat lady sings, that's the sound
Everything fake but a soul not your rival
We used to get high but you high-fashion now
I see your new n***a, think he high-profile
A ball player, but the way you did me so foul
But I still get giddy inside from your smile
Maybe you can fuck with a n***a, it's been a while
And I can still see that ass from a mile away
To be specific, hot-headed in the [?]
Saving up all the funds I used to allocate
But I send a CashApp to make you celebrate

[Pre-Chorus; Cordae]
And I can still see that ass from a mile away
I can still see that ass from a mile away
Hate the way your sister act, oh, happy day
Birdman hand-rub, let you fly away

[Chorus: Ty Dolla $ign]
Woah, when the money goes
Will you stick around? I might never know
I be gettin' high dealing with the lows
Even with the pain, never sell my soul
Woah, when the money's gone (Yeah)
You can see the snakes when the grass low (Yeah)
All eyes peeled on that backdoor (Yo)
Woah, we might never know

[Post-Chorus: Ty Dolla $ign & Cordae]
What goes up must come down
Till we come back around
Will my feet touch the ground?
Pray we never know (Woah)
Pray we never know (Woah)
Pray we never know (Woah)
Pray we never know (Woah)
Pray we never know (Yeah, aye, yeah)

[Verse 2: Cordae]
I pray you never find out the shit I did to you
I pray you know I'm always here for you
I dry your tears for you, pry your lids for you
Put a smile on your face, new Veneers for you
Sold my catalogue to take care of the kids for you
I only gave you real love, now you want real lawyers
Guess my only real fault is that I'm real loyal
Built you a real house on this real soil
Started off so good now we on bad terms
All the money we wasted and all the cash burned
Don't worry, my problems none of your concern
Grandma always used to tell me you live and learn

[Pre-Chorus; Cordae]
And I can still see that ass from a mile away
I can still see that ass from a mile away
Hate the way your sister act, oh, happy day
Birdman hand-rub, let you fly away

[Chorus: Ty Dolla $ign]
When the money goes
Will you stick around? I might never know
I be gettin' high dealing with the lows
Even with the pain, never sell my soul
When the money's gone
You can see the snakes when the grass low
All eyes peeled on that backdoor
Woah, we might never know

[Post-Chorus: Ty Dolla $ign]
What goes up must come down
Till we come back around
Will my feet touch the ground?
Baby, never know (Woah)
Baby, never know (Woah)
Baby, never know (Woah)
Baby, never know (Woah)
Baby, never know
