Denzel Charles (born October 15, 1993), alternatively known by his stage name "Rooga" is a Chicago drill rapper from Chicago's southside, Illinois. Rooga is a member of the Gangster Disciples street gang.[1]

Rooga first rose to fame in 2021 with his song "GD Anthem," an ode to his gang, the Gangster Disciples that was released on July 4th.[2] This song was played at the third listening party for fellow Chicago native Kanye West's tenth studio album Donda.[3]

Rooga is one of Kanye's several protégés and has written several songs for Kanye, working with him from the Mercedes-Benz sessions onwards, however few of these songs have ever been seen. He's most notable for featuring on Ok Ok pt. 1 and pt. 2 alongside fellow rappers Lil Yachty, Shenseea and Fivio Foreign.[4]

History (w/ Kanye West)[]

Rooga first met Kanye in 2021 through a mutual connection who shown Kanye his music, which eventually led into Kanye meeting up with him in San Francisco.[5]

Rooga had planned to put Kanye on the remix to his song "GD Anthem" but according to sources Kanye had never recorded a verse for the song.[6] During his sessions with West, Rooga had written Kanye's verse for his song "Jesus Lord" alongside Rhymefest after seemingly giving Kanye the song.

Rooga had stated on No Jumper that he had originally not been featured on Ok Ok and his verse was a random demo completely unrelated to Donda. After Kanye had heard his verse, however, he was asked to rerecord it over the Ok Ok beat.[7]

When the third listening party rolled around for Donda, Rooga was brought out to perform his song "GD Anthem."[8] He officially appeared on both Ok Ok pt. 1 and 2 when the album had fully released on August 29, 2021 and has continued to work with Kanye throughout the production of Donda 2 and VULTURES 1 as well.
