"THANK GOD" is a song by former GOOD Music signee Travis Scott off of his senior studio album, UTOPIA (2023).[1] The song serves as the second track of the record and was met with an offical release on July 28, 2023.
The song features an uncredited feature from Kenyan artist KayCyy Pluto on the chorus as well as backing vocals from Travis' daughter Stormi and Texas artist Teezo Touchdown.[2] The song features production done by Travis himself alongside Kanye West, BoogzDaBeast and WondaGurl among others.[3]
Production[]
The song runs at a tempo of 135 BPM and has a key of Bb Minor.[4] It features a prominent instrumental sample of "TRAPER BELLZ" by Kohiba Beatz throughout.[5]
Background[]
The song was initially owned by Kanye West and had been created in early-2020 after Kanye had released JESUS IS KING during the God's Country sessions. At this point in time, the song had been titled "Devil's Ivy". Although unclear when Kanye had recorded his initial freestyle, KayCyy recorded his reference for the song on January 28, lots of the content in his reference being used in the final version.[6]
The song was further worked on until July when the song had appeared on a track list for Donda.[7] Past this, the song had not made any further appearances on further track listings and was presumably scrapped.
At some point, the song was given to Travis Scott who had heavily tweaked the beat and covered KayCyy's reference. The song was released on July 28, 2023 as the second track to Travis Scott's senior studio album UTOPIA.
When the features for UTOPIA were unhidden on August 2nd, KayCyy had shown anger in his feature still being unlisted leading to a short-lived feud with Travis and the release of KayCyy's single "My Jeans" on August 4th, stating he was "no background singer".[8]
