Thank God For Drugs was the original title for Kanye West's sixth studio album Yeezus (2013).[1] Work on the album began in 2012 but accelerated in 2013 when more producers got on board for the project, thus allowing more content to leak. So much content was produced that up to three and a half hours of an album was made, which was reduced and refined by Rick Rubin before release.[2]

The original name for Yeezus was actually posted on some forums and on Twitter but went ignored at the time.[3][4][5] The title was officially confirmed in early 2020 when designer Joe Perez shared some concept artwork for the album on social media.[1]

Artwork[]

The artwork that Joe Perez shared was actually done by George Condo, the artist behind the covers for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010). The artwork for the album is largely similar to what ended up being used for Yeezus. While both TGFD and Yeezus artwork use a clear CD case, different concept pieces for TGFD had different designs on it.[1]

The front cover for TGFD is a CD in a clear case with the album's title on the top and a parental advisory sticker on the case. The back cover (which is most commonly used as the album's cover) shows a figure on the back of the case with pills being plunged into it. The figure can also be seen doing the peace sign with its left hand and holding another pill in its right hand.
