TurboGrafx 16 (also known as Turbo Grafx16 or TG16) is a scrapped Kanye West album that was originally planned to release in summer 2016 as a follow-up to his seventh studio album The Life of Pablo that released earlier that year.[1] It was named after the video game console of the same name, which Ye has described as his favorite during his childhood.
The album was likely scrapped around the time that Ye was released from the UCLA Medical Center, and he would begin work on a separate album titled LOVE EVERYONE that was scrapped just two weeks before the album ye was released in June 2018.[2]
Background[]
The project started some time after the release of Kanye's 2016 album The Life Of Pablo and was announced by Kanye himself. The album was intended to drop in the summer of that year. The album had been primarily produced by G.O.O.D. music producer Keyon Christ A.K.A, Mitus.
Throughout the creation of the album, Kanye had been seen working with new and up-and-coming artists in the hip-hop scene at the time like the Migos and Lil Yachty.[3] He had also stated he had been working with Drake, Young Thug and Future as well.[4] He also had been working extensively with Pusha T for his album Blobama, although the only known song Pusha T had recorded for TurboGrafx 16 was Mitus Touch.
The album was scrapped when Kanye had been admitted to the UCLA Medical Hospital on November 11 of that same year.[5]
Songs[]
Given how mysterious the album's development had been at the time, very little songs from these sessions have surfaced, most of them being instrumentals Keyon had sent Kanye to record for like "ohmygod" and "Zulu".[6] However, several songs recorded for the album are known to exist, like "Damn Come On" featuring Kid Cudi and No Reason featuring Justin Bieber and Post Malone, whom the song had been given to.[7]
Songs like Hold Tight, Mitus Touch and Bad Night had also been brought back into consideration for the album from the previous SWISH era.
Tracklist[]
Keyon Christ, a collaborator working on Turbo Grafx 16, confirmed that a tracklist for the album existed at some point, though nothing else is known. No other tracklists are known.
