"Tycoon" (formerly titled "Beach House 4", "$ign Language 2" and "Airplane Mode 2") is the title of Ty Dolla $ign's sixth studio album and serves as his fourth solo project and fourth installment of his Beach House series. [1] The album's production began in 2020 after the release of Ty Dolla $ign's Featuring Ty Dolla $ign, but was paused mid-2023 for work on his and Kanye West's VULTURES series.[2]

Most of the songs intended for the album prior to VULTURES have been heavily reworked and released as a VULTURES song. The album has since been picked up post-VULTURES 2 and is likely for release in 2025.

Background[]

Early Sessions[]

Production for the album presumably began in 2020 after the release of Ty Dolla $ign's previous solo album, Featuring Ty Dolla $ign on October 23rd.[3] Though what this album was intended to be was unclear, Ty would go onto a Vitaly stream in 2024 to confirm this project was the fourth installment to the Beach House series.[4]

During mid-2020, Ty Dolla $ign would begin working on a collaborative album with the Toronto R&B duo dvsn.[5] His solo work intended for Beach House 4 would continue on, with Ty taking the Tory Lanez song "So Drunk" and reworking it entirely with a new Kodak Black feature.[6] This exact copy of the song would become the Bad Bitch Play Book copy of the song in 2023.

Ty would also begin working with Ant Clemons during this year. Mid-2021 Ty would meet up with Kanye at the Pio Pico Art Gallery and begin recording for his album at the time Donda (2021), recording multiple reference tracks for multiple songs like Jail, Believe What I Say, I Let Go, Pure Souls, God Breathed and New Again and has been speculated to have recorded a reference to the song All These Friends Of Mine as well, although only his work on Junya released as a part 2 to the track on Donda.[7]

In early-2022, Ty and producer Mustard began work on a collaborative album. In these sessions, the song "Up In The Stars" was conceived which would later be repurposed for Ty's solo album and later into Kanye and Ty's collaborative album.[8] The first single to the project, "My Friends" featuring Lil Durk would release on October 5, although the project was cancelled shortly after.[9]

On January 7 of 2023, Ty would release his first solo single since "Ego Death" featuring Kanye West and FKA twigs in 2019 titled "2022". It's unclear if this was ever intended for his solo album.[10]

In February, Ty Dolla $ign would begin working with Diddy for his solo album Love Album: Off The Grid, as evident in the file date of the unreleased song "I Mind" featuring Ty, Mary G. Blige and another unknown artist.[11] These are likely the same sessions in which the songs "Mind Your Business" and "Reachin" were recorded, both of which releasing on the album on September 15.[12]

The first single released known to be intended for the album dates back to June 1st of 2023 where he released the song "Motion".[13] The following month on July 17th an updated version of the song featuring Chris Brown released.[14]

Between January and July Ty created the songs "Sliding", "Promotion" featuring Future, "Paid" featuring K-Ci, "Dis Bitch Dat Hoe", "Do It", "Love Again", "Cheesecake", Smoking On Junt" and the song "Pray" which was later passed off to Kanye for his solo album YEBU.[15] He was also likely given the songs "Love Love Love" and "New Body" by Kanye as they appeared on the final track list before VULTURES era.

In July, Ty would travel to Japan for Kanye's birthday where he would show Kanye his album and attempt to persuade him to executively produce it. Kanye would record a feature verse for the song "Burn", though this would ultimately be repurposed for Kanye and Ty's collaborative album Bad Bitch Play Book.[16]

The songs Promotion, Paid, Do It, Burn and Drunk would release as a part of the two VULTURES albums and so would "Smoking On Junt", "Cheesecake", and "Put A Gun" as "FUK SUMN", "BACK TO ME" and "GUN TO MY HEAD".

Late Sessions[]

After a long pause of creating solo music to work on his collaborative record with Kanye, Ty would begin work on Beach House 4 again presumably mid-2024 with the song "Blind Date" featuring Future and produced by Hitmaka.[17] Although this song could date back earlier, it's assumed to be recent to the VULTURES era as the video the song was previewed in features Ty wearing VULTURES merch.[18]

During the Haikou listening party, "NEW BODY" and a new unheard song "A THOUSAND MILES" were previewed in full. It's been speculated these tracks are intended for the next solo Ty album as the song "Preacher Man" had also been previewed later on which had been intended for Kanye's next solo album.[19] Ty has also since teased VULTURES 3, though it's likely if it ever does release it will be a solo Ty album.

On November 15, the first Ty Dolla $ign solo feature post-VULTURES 2 released on Cordae's album, The Crossroads titled "Pray".[20] This song was initially intended for VULTURES 1 & 2.

In January 24, 2025. In an interview with Outpump, when asked about his friendship with Kanye West, Ty Dolla $ign would say, "Oh thats my brother right there, man, you know? VULTURES 3 on the way, BULLY on the way, And my new album Tycoon on the way. Let's go."

On February 1st, Ty would confirm Kanye was executively producing for his album Tycoon and that the lead single "POPSTAR SHAWTY" (formerly known as "Aquafina") was set to drop the following week. In that same Tyga livestream he played an updated version of "DON'T KILL THE PARTY" now featuring a slightly altered beat and verses from both Tyga and Kanye instead of either or and hummed the melody to "LOVE LOVE LOVE", heavily implying both of those tracks were in consideration as well.[21] He also confirmed that the song "A THOUSAND MILES" was titled "A THOUSAND MILES".

Songs[]

As of now, there are several songs that could be in consideration for Ty's album Tycoon. More songs will be added as the list grows.
