"We Got Love" is the twenty-third and final track from Teyana Taylor's third studio album, The Album (2020).[1] It was released as a single on December 6, 2019, then rereleased with vocals from Lauryn Hill on March 12, 2020.[2] The song was produced by Kanye West during the Wyoming sessions, and was even planned to be on his now-unreleased album, Yandhi.

Production[]

The song samples The Younghearts' 1974 song, "We've Got Love (You Better Believe It)".[3]

Background[]

In June 2018, a snippet of the song was leaked online featuring vocals from Lauryn Hill. It was originally intended to release on Teyana's second studio album, K.T.S.E.. The song was then played at the listening party for the album, although it never released on it.[4] It was later revealed via leaked track lists that the song would instead appear on Kanye's then-upcoming album, Yandhi. On September 30, 2018, Kanye and Teyana performed the song (along with "I Love It" and "Ghost Town") at the season 44 premiere of Saturday Night Live, before going on a political rant onstage while wearing a MAGA hat.[5] The next day, a music video for the song was filmed in the parking lot of TMZ, but it has not been released by either Kanye or Teyana.[6] Finally, on December 5, 2019, Teyana announced on Instagram that the song would be released on streaming services the following day.[7] Despite Kanye's vocals being removed from the song, he was still credited as a writer and a producer of the song.

Lyrics[]

We got love, love, love

You better believe it (sing)

We got love, love, love

You better believe it

I got house and the carriage yeah

I got black love in marriage yeah

They gon' say you can't have it but

I'm like don't kill the messenger

We gon' break the stigma up

Huxtables turn to Obamas

It ain't about where you been

Where you from, what you got

It's all about love

Self love is the best love

When you go take that wristband off

That pity party been over

Don't need makeup to dress you up

I gave birth on the bathroom floor

Just me, Iman, and headphone cords

Don't let this life defeat you

I hope this message reach you

Throw your hands up

Play catch with the hundreds

Love is the new money

I'm just chillin' with the homies

Home is where the heart is

Throw your hands up

Play catch with the hundreds

Love is the new money

I'm just chillin' with the homies

Home is where the heart is, ahh

We got love, love, love

You better believe it (sing)

We got love, love, love

Ya better believe it (sing)

I live in abundance

Love is the new money

I'm mentally wealthy

Spiritually conscious

I'm fresh outta Onyx

I'm bawlin' and ballin'

I play with the hundreds

Love is the new money

That's my frequency

Spark up burn the sage

Clear the room kill the hate

Love is the new wave

Play catch with the hundreds

Love is the new money

I'm just chillin' with the homies

Home is where the heart is, ahh

Play catch with the hundreds

Love is the new money

I'm just chillin' with the homies

Home is where the heart is, ahh

We got love, love, love

You better believe it (sing)

We got love, love, love

You better believe it (sing)

Play catch with the hundreds

Love is the new money

I'm just chillin' with the homies

Home is where the heart is, ahh

Play catch with the hundreds

Love is the new money

I'm just chillin' with the homies

Home is where the heart is, ahh

(Put your hands up)
