It is unknown when the song was created, although it is believed that it was created sometime on or before July 17, 2020. KayCyy has stated that Ye recorded the initial freestyle for the song on July 19, 2020, the same day as his first and only presidential rally. Rapper Ju Delgato also recorded reference vocals for the song, some of which were recited in a freestyle that he did, which Ye posted onto his Twitter.[1] Insiders have also claimed that Royce da 5'9" recorded feature vocals for the song.
The song was seen on several tracklists for DONDA: WITH CHILD in July 2020. It was even intended for a release on New Years Day in 2021. It was also included in the DONDA: WITH CHILD visual album. Later in 2021, the song was seen on a tracklist for Donda during the Mercedes-Benz sessions, though it was presumably scrapped afterward.[2]
Insiders claim that James Blake did not clear the sample for "With Child" after Ye showed James a "sick-in-the-head abortion thing" that he wanted to use the song in. It was described as a "cartoon" or "visual project".
