YZY (formerly known as YZY SND[1]) is an independent label founded by Kanye West, following his departure from Def Jam in 2022 after the release of his album Donda in 2021.
History[]
2020-2023[]
In 2020, West would announce he would be launching a new streaming service entitled "Yeezy Sound" that he had filed trademark papers for in 2017, likely intended to have been in competition with Jay-Z's streaming service "Tidal" after the platform had reportedly withheld over $3 million in advances and bonuses from West.[2] On July 11th, West would share an artist roster for "YZY SND", with the Chicago hip-hop duo Abstract Mindstate, West's cousin The WRLDFMS Tony Williams, GOOD Music's CyHi, the newly reformed Clipse, Donda writer KayCyy, and West's own daughter who had been 7 at the time, North West all having been written down.[3]
Though most of these names likely haven't signed officially under YZY SND as only one of the written artists would release anything under the label, KayCyy would confirm in a 2021 interview that he was the first artist to have been signed to the record label.[4] On August 6th, Abstract Mindstate would release not only their first album in over 20 years, but what was also the first full-length project to release under YZY SND.[5]
By 2022. seemingly most of, if not all artists who had previously been signed under the label had either been dropped or had left the label.
2024-2025[]
In 2024, YZY founder Kanye West as well as Ty Dolla $ign, credited under the name "¥$" would release the first YZY records in two years as well as the second and third albums released under the label, VULTURES 1 and VULTURES 2.[6]
In 2025, the first artist since 2020 would be signed in a release for the song "LONELY ROADS STILL GO TO SUNSHINE" on March 15, claiming the artist Jasmine Williams (stage name JAAS) was signed to YZY.[7] A trusted source would reveal months later that this was a part of an attempted "GOOD Music revival" with an intended roster of Young Moose, Consequence, and Fat Money alongside her; though evidently Young Moose and JAAS are the only two artists to have been officially signed to the label.[8]
